The Devastator - Transformers themed cab marquee
« on: July 24, 2006, 05:28:04 pm »
Here's a sample of the marquee I just finished for my friend's Transformers themed cabinet, "The Devastator".

Character artwork is from the Dreamwave archives. Everything else is by me.

The grey in the background is simply there so you can see the detail of everything on-screen, as gridlines and small details don't show up on pure black on a monitor at low resolutions, and I didn't want to post the file at full size.

Anyways, here's how it's coming along so far:

Here's it a bit bigger:

The CP will be designed shortly.

I like the concept.

A few comments, to me it looks unbalanced with one character on the right, and then the Transformer logo centered with the writing..

Also the bottom writing does not appear to stand out too much..

Lastly the font for the names of the emulators could prove difficult to read.

Don't take these comments too harshly, as I already said I like the concept.

I like it a lot.  Reminds me of the old stat cards on the backs of the boxes.

And I _HAVE_ the constructicon set!  (or whatever they're called)  :D  I'm going to have to get my old transformers out of the basement.

Too bad there's no game you could have a cabinet default to featuring them...  That would be cool.  Maybe with the new movie coming out, they'll come out with something decent...

Personally, I like the asymmetric design of the marquee.  More interesting to look at, IMO.

Nice work, Motor.

I really like the asymmetrical look of the marquee but if possible I would make the "The Devestator" font a little larger or more pronounced (bold maybe?) and I would also ditch the font in the upper left.  Very very very nice looking though - did you vectorize the picture of Devestator?  That must have been a ton of work...

Good work motor,
cant wait to  print this out.
The list in the upper corner isnt emulators, i have actually installed an xbox, ps2 and a pc in the cab, all controled through one 4 player ipac and a nice KVM switch.  press of a button the video and controls switch over to the next system. so the only emu in the system is mame.  Using the high end billlabs monitor for the video so it works great. That and i have a great DDR machine this way too.

Sound system is a logitech 5500

I hope to have the cab finished by october. then i will post pics.

BTW why do so many people insist on vectorized artwork, unless you are printing by the meter its pointless. 90% of all printed materiel is 300dpi.
For a marquee that is only 26x7 vertorizing would be a waste of time.

The one Transformer I truly remember *my brother* owning.  So cool that he had all five to join together.  He had the others, but no others that joined.  I remember all those construction vehicles.  So cool...

Six. The Constructicons were a set of six.

Fricken awesome, great color scheme on that baby.

The only difference I would want would be to remove the list of what it does. If you plan on updating your cab a few years from now to the next systems out there, are you willing to print out a new marquee to match it? If so, thats fine, but me...I'm stingy, and would want my marquee to be more universal to the way I update my cab.

It's your baby though, and I can't wait to see the pics you post!
