ArcadeVGARes.exe is doing nothing?
« on: July 20, 2006, 06:16:24 pm »
ORIGINAL PROBLEM FIXED - this is a new one.

So I fixed the jittery MALA video, but now my MAME games are just a little fuzzy.  I used the ArcadeVGARes.exe tool but it doesn't seem to want to do anything.  Normally you can see it processing different game names, and when it finishes it says "Mame.ini created".  Well it begins 'working' for about 3 seconds, then goes directly to "Mame.ini created"

Anyone have any idea as to why this thing isn't working?

By the way thanks for all the help with my previous problem.  :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Also, is there a 'page down' setting I can input when browsing my gamelist?  I'm in the process of creating gamelists for myself, but some lists, like Capcom and NeoGeo games will be very long. Instead of going up or down one game at a time, is there a way to set the list to 'jump down' a page with a command?  Gamelauncher did this for me.  If I pressed Up or Down on my stick, it went up or down one game.  If I hit right or left, it would go up or down by page.  Then if if I HELD it there, it would start skipping pages rapidly.

Then button 1 and Button 2  for Player 1 would change gamelists, much like pressing right or left in MALA.  Is there any way to configure this?

Thanks for all the help!

Yes, hold down the control key (usually defaults to the player 1 fire button) while moving the stick up and down to page through the list. Move the stick left and right (without holding any buttons down) to move between the gamelists that you have created. Finally, there's an option to skip to the next letter in the list, but those buttons are not configured by default. You'll have to go into the options menu to set them. BTW, all of the inputs can be configured by you if you would prefer to use different buttons for them.

I just installed MALA today, and from what I can see I like it MUCH MORE than GameLauncher.

That is the path I took as I have vertical monitor set-up
 aracdeos-> gamelauncher -> mala.
Did you see there is a 'gamelauncher' layout that looks very similar? It may make you feel at home for a while

To your video issues:
try altering your screen resolution through windows to someting your card is happy with

If that does not help try changing res options within MaLa (see pic attached)

Cool, I have a question about changing the video options within windows...

no matter what rez I use, it's still very jittery but I noticed that my refresh rate is set @ 200htz..

Can I change that without hurting the monitor?

It appears to me that mala doesn't allow for custom resolutions.  This is your issue as 640x480i looks like crap.  Btw, if you monitor is running at 200hz then it's gonna blow up.. run!  ;)  The 20hz refresh rate is what makes the display viewable on an arcade monitor.  I don't know a lot about avga, but see if windows allows you to use some of the custom resolutions available on the card at the desktop level... if so that'll help for the desktop at least.

You can run MaLa in any resolution provided by your graphic card. So it is possible to run MaLa with a AVGA card in a resolution of 368x240 at 60Hz for example, thats what I'm doing on my cab. Normally all provided resolutions are listed in the combobox on the tab Loadman attached above.

MaLa behaves like any other windows program, it uses the current resolution and refresh rate of your desktop. Additional you can change your desktop resolution (not your refresh rate) with MaLa to the resolution of a fixed size layout or to any resolution provided by your graphic card.

Well I was finally able to get MALA  to look *somewhat* nice.  It's not jittery anymore so I've got that going for me.

Now I have a fuzzy vid problem with my GAMES!  They aren't jittery like Windows/MALA was, but I can just tell they are a little blurry.  Ive tried using AVGARes.exe (if I spelled that right) and it was working BEFORE, but now it won't process any games.

It looks like it's going to start doing it, then it automatically finishes.  I'm not sure what's going on with that.

Not that I know of, though I did have to end up going to a regular version of MAME32Plus because WolfMAME didn't support multiple BIOS. (LAME!)

I have force aspect ratio checked, but even if I uncheck it, it doesn't affect anything, other than that - the version of MAME i have doesn't really have any options for changing things past running in a window and setting everything to auto.

I know it's something having to do with my ArcadeVGARes.exe tool, I dont know why its not working.
