Coming soon....

Sorry of the bad quality of video and sound, but it is to keep the files tiny.

(adapted from a great GameCreature a layout)

I like gamecreatures work too  ;)

To encourage artists (like gamecreature) it would be great to have a one tool to convert layouts to multiple FE's. And like FE's you could choose to make a small donation to the artist (if you wish) via PayPal or such.

Swindus has a tool to convert MameWah layouts and Youkki obviously converted the MaLa layout ok, so the formats can not be that dramatically different can they?

If Only I was smart enough to write such a thing  :-[

any takers?

Very interesting idea, Loadman. I can't imagine it would be very easy (or it would have been done already) but I'd probably use such a tool if it was available. I'd be happy to collaborate with folks who want to persue this further.

To expand on my own question. Obviously there are some differences (eg ATOMIC animated backgrounds) but a conversion could be done to a point where it could be loaded into each of the FE's layout editors to add custom features etc

I have to disagree with that .  Today's FE have almost all the same possibilities. (implemented in a different way, but almost all can do the same thing). Except in term of layout.

Layout capabilities is one of the most important point that makes difference between Front End.

I think Front End choice is do mainly on this 3 points :

-how it is easy to configure
-Does it support your hardware
-how nice it looks like

I think ,one goal of each (free) FE developper is to have the maximum of users. That is the main motivation. (at least mine). The competition between FE  and users requests force FE creator to be more creative (or copy the idea of the other...) and each time improve the quality of their sofware.

My point of view, is that the soul of a FE is their layouts. That's their personnality, it is the first thing you see when they runs.

I have never wanted to make a MameWah layout convertor or a Mala one , even if it is easy for a developper.  And i would never did it without having the authorisation of the FrontEnd author...

When i convert manually a layout from another FE (like i did for the GameCreature one) i always ask the layout author.

Some layout made by Atomic's  users can be others FE port , if i'm aware of that i try to find the layout's author to ask him.

Some Atomic Layouts are "Exclusif" and protected. For instance Totoleouf  ones.   the author agree with that.

AtomicFE is Free (and will stay) , but his layout's format is not open to other FE.

Of course images used in layout own to the artist , and if the artist is agree to see them re-use in other Front End, there is no problem.

I'm 200% agree with this point.   I'm planning something to hightligh Artist.  And best Atomic's layouters could have a good retribution soon.

We love that. ;D  All the FE's are great

You raise an interesting issue. Would you be willing to share with us the dialogue of the 'permission given' by GameCreature as an example please.

Youki did contact me for permission, but I've been so busy with other things that I don't remember what I said. I'm really flattered by everyone's enthusiasm for my skins, but I'd prefer to do the work myself (something I seem to lack the time to do at this time). So I've been asking folks to be patient while I look into it. Unlike all of the game art and comic art that folks are used to using for these things, these are my original creations and it's important to me that I can maintain some control over what happens to them (which is admittedly very difficult to do with the way things are on the internet) Well, I think I've said enough about that.

I asked GameCreature if it would be a problem if i adapt 2 of his layouts to Atomic. (the Aliens one and the blue one). and if he agree , it would be great if he could send me "graphic material" he used to make his layout.
He said me , that if i can wait a little he could send me the data because now he is too busy. Then in another answer he asked me if my mail box can handle a 10mega file.

I understood he was agree i port his layouts to Atomic. As i had not to much time to work on layouts, i started without having received his files.

But you can still send me your files, the layout will be much nicer. I will update the layout. And if there is something you don't like or want improve i can do that too. Just say me.
