Wiring question for a Nintendo Sanyo Monitor
« on: July 19, 2006, 11:16:03 am »
Trying to install this monitor into my vs. cabinet.  My monitor is missing this gray wire (highlighted in the picture below).  It looks like it ties two boards together.  Can i just take two wires i have laying around and connect them that way and make some kind of hacked up wire, or is this gray wire some kind of special wire?  It looks pretty thick, so i don't know if just regular wires would do the trick or not.  Any suggestions on how to replace this wire?  I can't find any places selling this. Thanks!

It's actually three wires for the audio volume pot.
You can use any wire about the same guage as the rest of the wiring harness in the cab.
The gray part is just the three wires are bundled together.
You are correct in that it just interconnects the two boards so that the volume pot on the remote board can be used.

Pin 1 being nearest the edge of the metal frame. (connector JB)

So is it even necessary?  Will i get volume without the wire, and i just won't be able to adjust it, or will i get no volume at all?  I don't have to worry about frying anything do I?

Thanks for your help on this Kevin, as well as your help on several other of my topics these last few days, i'm really learning alot from you.  :)

Thanks for the great comments..... I just like to help when I can.

You will have NO volume witout it.
The audio runs through the pot.

You can't hurt anything as long as you understand my little pinout it should work just fine. (given that there's nothing else already wrong with the audio amp iteslf)

That's a shielded cable that connects the amplifier board to it's volume control. Yes it must be connected to the volume control or you'll have no sound.

So can i just have 3 individual wires going to the necessary connectors, or must my hacked wiring be 'sheilded' as well?  Or is 'shielded' just another word for insulated wire?  I was going to take the three wires and electrical tape them together except for the ends, this will be OK, right?

The cable is electrically shielded to prevent hum from entering the sound. This is very common in connecting volume controls.

Try Radio Shack # 278-514 cable (20 foot hank, just $4)

I thought it might have been shielded audio cable, so I took a look at one I had here before I posted. (even split the casing) It doesn't have an obvious "shielding" per say.
It is just an outer casing. Unless the lining is the actual shielding. (pretty thin)

Ken..... Is there something different about the material they used that I'm not aware of?

Kevin--  you wouldn't happen to have an extra one you'd want to sell me, do you?  Seems like this is turning into more than what i expected :)  I haven't even begun to think about the connectors yet.

I don't have a spare right off....with the right connector... but I could poke around a bit and maybe find one.

If you could, that'd be great.  Or even if you could just hack together something for me that would work.  I have no way to test my homemade wiring out, so it'd be basically a trial and error thing.  If you have one right in front of you, maybe it'd be easier to make something up since you have an original one there for reference.  Let me know if this is possible, i'll pay you of course.

Oh shoot guys, i'm so sorry, but i actually DO have this part of wiring on my monitor.  The parts i'm missing are the 6 pin video cable that goes to the wiring harness as well as the 3 pin audio cable that goes to the wiring harness.  Sorry for the confusion....anyone know where i can buy these?

Looks like arcadeshop has the video cable, but neither place has the audio cable.  Any other suggestions?
