HACKING 360 CONTROLLER
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:55:28 pm »
I was curious about something... since the 360 controller can be plugged into a usb port and used as a controller for PC games, would you be able to hack it to a control panel and then use this http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=USB2XBOX&cat=CBL to use the arcade controls with your regular xbox for old xbox games as well as fighting games?

could the hack be sent to an ipac for that control panel?

for that matter, has anyone tried to use the 360 with MAME or any other emulators?

i noticed this http://www.gamersreports.com/article/24/ thread for a hack, and assumed since he is using it for his 360 it still utilizes the usb plug.

You can't use a 360 controller on an Xbox.

Even though Xbox uses what is techincally USB, it is not hid standard, and any devices that are not Xbox sepcific would need drivers to work.

I thought you could attach any USB steering wheel, keyboard/mouse, and whatnot through those cables and use them on your xbox?  would they not allow their own technology to be readable as well on their own, albeit, older system?

Nope, you can only connect items that have drivers or are built specifically for Xbox (thus using the systems native drivers).

If backward compatibility were anything that MS cared about, then we'd be able to use our old controllers on the new system at the very least for backward compatible games, so we could also then transfer some save files over via the old memory card.

As for new stuff working on the old... Stuff very rarely works out that way, especially when there is not even interest in the opposite.
