Windows XP PE (bootable CD)
« on: July 11, 2006, 12:42:23 pm »
Has anyone tried to get an XP bootable CD working with MameWAH and MAME?

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/  I have built Barts' disks for troubleshooting and ghosting, but those are all prepackaged.

The ROMs are what take up the most space.  Imagine booting XP from a CD straight into the MameWAH interface with only the config files and ROMs residing on the local PC hard drive!

If you upgraded your PC you could just move the CD-ROM disc to the new PC along with the HDD and it would bootup same-same!

There's KnoppixMAME and ArcadeSOMETHING-OR-OTHER, but both are linux based and as such have a more limited driver base.

I looked at the Windows PE (preinstallation environment) stuff a little today.  I just can't figure out how to make MameWAH be the shell.

AdvanceCD (based on AdvanceMAME). It's great so long as you like their interface. ;)

I will take a look at this Windows booting Cd. It intrigues me.

The Bart's disk is a real hit at the office.  It comes with the XP driver base and it's VERY EASY to add additional drivers.  In fact, we've added the network drivers used by all new Dell and HP systems as well as all our various SCSI drivers to support access to our RAID arrays.
