There is a new 2.5/2.6 downgrader out there.  It's not "easier" than before, but it can be done on most system now.

ps2nfo.com and pspupdates.com would be good places to go read.

psp-hacks has a full package for the 2.5/2.6---->1.5 downgrade..
no need to troll for firmware dumps.

after that downgrade, there is also a new 1.5-1.00 downgrade, this will lead to the ability to run custom firmware as 1.0 has no security checks and can run unsigned eboots.(no reason to downgradde to 1.00 just yet, unless your a dev)
also just announced on pspupdates that they have decrypted the 2.7 firmware. so this could lead to finding an exploit for those unforuntate enough to have bought or upgraded to a 2.7

been a crazy week in the PSP scene..
theyve just been cracking that thing open like a nut

yeah it's been a crazy 2 or 3 weeks now in the PSP scene.

Devhook and 2.5/2.6 decrypted
2.5/2.6 downgrader
1.5-1.0 downgrader
now 2.7....

Hopefully the decryption of 2.7 will lead to it being able to be used in DevHook.

thanks for the info... but when you say 2.5/2.6 has been done do you mean the factory default firmware can be downgraded to 1.5? or an updated  one to 2.6? a freind of mine wants to get rid of his PSP  for 75-100$ since i got him a deal on a white one from japan. i wanted to know whats been going on with the emulation scene over all on the PSP.

if you have a 2.5 or a 2.6 PSP (assuming its not one specific board, check the forums) then you can downgrade it to 1.5 and have full homebrew..

if he has 2.7, you can't do anything with it (yet)

When the downgrader first came out, some people were saying there were some problems downgrading systems that were stock 2.6's (as in.. they came that way and were no upgraded TO 2.6)   There is a final version of the downgrader out which I believe fixes that problem... or it may not have been a real problem at all.  I didn't do a ton of reading on it as it didn't directly affect me, but it seems like all but that one motherboard revision now downgrades just fine.

That's actually a hardware issue and has not been solved.  If you've got a newer PSP with a TA-082 chip it can't be downgraded because it checks for lower firmwares and will not run them.  Until that gets worked out all TA-082 downgrades become bricks.

well he had the first model, but sometime earlier this year he had sent it to sony because he had a defective wifi unit. i dont know if they send back refurbished items, but it wasnt new in box when he got it back from sony. hes actually agreed to give it to me before i leave on vacation, the thing is hes waiting for this white PSP on ebay but i believe someone may have bidpay scammed him. ill see when i get my hands on it, but where do you find the motherboard version? ill be taking it apart anyway since it also has a dead right speaker too.  :P

UPDATE: yeah, i got it from him, it was a 1.0 but has been updated all the way to 2.71 @#%!  :banghead:

It's called Undiluted Platinum, and its supposed to be out already.  However, AFAIK, no one has come out to say they've had it installed and working just yet.  There was also a hacked firmware video released that was all but proven to be fake, so the whole thing seems a bit shady.  Hopefully someone will be able to come out and say for sure if it is legit or not.

Either way, the new DevHook just got upgraded and fully emulates the latest 2.71 firmware, so there is really no need for the modchip right now.  The only folks that can't get full homebrew are those that have 2.7 or 2.71 on their PSPs.  Anything from 2.6 down can be downgraded to 1.5

damn ,they work fast!
they only just decrypted 2.6

and as far as undiluted goes, unless you have access to a professional soldering station and harbor some serious micro level soldering skills i wouldnt even THINK of going there.. and thats assuming its even legit..
after unmasking those leads are only .005" to .010" wide..

Ill just keep my day one 1.5 PSP as is until the urgent need to update comes about.  Strange enough i really only play emulators on it.  i dont have a memory stick big enough currently to play an iso if i come across a newer game i want but i get plenty of use out of the little sucker anyway with shoutcast and web browsing also.
