Received my T-2 pinball today but...
« on: July 06, 2006, 01:06:43 pm »
Received my T-2 pinball today but...I need some opinions before I proceed with what to do, I paid $1550.00 & this is the description line You bidding on a Terminator 2 Pinball Machine , in perfect working order, and EXCELLENT!!!! Shape!!!!. Now I realize this is a 20 year old pin...& the playfield is great & backglass is great but the artwork on the sides & backglass are not, the artwork around the coin door is terrible & the sides of the backglass are very bad a long area of worn down to bare wood & lots of artwork gone, these areas need the artwork replaced & the paint stripped & repainted now the side have quite a few scuffs & they are I would say in fair to good shape for a 20 year old pin, before I go to the seller I just wanted some opinions,  I would think excellent would be artwork in very good shape with minor scratches.
thanks
dm
p.s. one more thing all of the pictures that were taken did not show the bad artwork only the good places, he should show all so a person can decide the condition

I would be ticked.  That price seems high for a T2 in that type of condition.  Also, the phrase "Excellent Condition" is relative on who's looking at it.  I have seen some pins that to me looked excellent, while the anal pin collectors found all kinds of faults in them.  However, the fact that he purposely took pics avoiding the damaged areas in the artwork convinced me that he did know certain areas of the game were not "excellent" and thus purposely avoided showing them in the auction.  That's personally why I never buy pins/arcades site unseen.

That's what i am thinking, I'm not anal its my first pin, & for 1550.00 plus the words excellent, i thought the art should be in very good shape, I'm going to approach him for a refund to replace the artwork

Well, this will serve you no good now, but I always ask for "missing" photos before bidding. It's usually on purpose when a seller doesn't include them.

In the end though, this will be an opinion war. One man's "great" is another man's "mint" or yet another man's "average".

NO MORE!!

Yes, i would ask him for a refund, or at least a refund in the amount of money enough to purchase new artwork.  You might have a hard time getting a full refund, because, as Ray B said too, condition is all relative as to who's looking at it, but for $100.00 or so, you can get the artwork and the seller can make good on the transaction, while still making decent money on the pin.

Congrats on the T-2....... :)

My first pin purchase wasn't perfect either..... machine had reset issues and a dmd that was dying.  I didn't realize that until later..... too late.  At least your machine seems to be in good working order.

I don't think cab decals are available for T2.  I know Treasure Cove has apron decals for T2 (www.treasure-cove.net) so maybe you can shoot them an email and ask about their plans for the cabinet.  Cab decals for pins run anywhere from $200-$350 depending on game.  They also take a lot of time to install as well.  You really should prep the cab well before installing them.  You will probably need new side rails if you ever get cab decals as you'll probably ruin the side rails when you pry them off.

Also bookmark www.pinballlife.com for all your other supplies as their pricing is excellent.

Have fun!

Just do a search in rec.games.pinball on him and you'll find plenty of reasons.

That seems like a pretty steep price for a T2. Glad you got some cash back, helps the deal a bit. In my eyes excellent means excellent. A machine with missing artwork and bare wood is NOT in excellent condition. I don't know how some of these guys look themselves in the mirror.
