I have to agree with this change as well.  It's more easily explained than the whole mechanics of coming up with a miracle device and chemical compound that the braniacs @ 3M have not been able to do.

Also, in #2 they do fail at a couple critical moments.

Yeah, they fail because he loses his confidence/ability.  Oh yay, I feel bad about myself and now I'm not Super.  What idiot wrote that?

The reason he was able to build those was that he was a brilliant Chemistry/Physics PhD candidate of the order that could carry on conversations with guys like Doc Ock (who himself was a world class scientist) and got the attention of billionaire capital venturists.  Oh wait, in the new world, he just does those things because he happens to be classmates with the guy's son.  Can't actually achieve things on stuff like merit.

One thing I get a kick out of is that Superman's costume is invulnerable except to kryptonite.  It can survive the flame associated with falling into the atmosphere from outer space.  It can survive an impact that causes a 10-foot deep crater in the ground.  It can survive a 50 caliber chaingun firing into the chest at point-blank range.  It can survive flying through natural gas pipes while they are in the process of exploding.  But a shard of kryptonite can cut through it like butter.   ;D

Well, the Kryptonite is the same "density" as the costume, so why wouldn't it be able to cut through? It would be able to on Krypton...

Or, if you want to enjoy the movie do exactly the opposite and suspend disbelief   ;D

People don't like smart hereos any more, it makes them feel dumb, so voila, no more smart hereos in the movies despite all three of these characters originally being protrayed as using their intelligence and devices they construct over and over again.

Huh..looks like Bolywood disagrees.  Check out India's "Superman"..

"The smarter superhero motif has obvious appeal for India's urban middle class and wealthy expatriate community, whose educations have allowed them to compete in the global marketplace."

Truth, justice and the New Delhi way.

My biggest complaint was that I've grown to like the Smallville version of Superman so much, that I had a hard time adjusting to a born poor Lex and a non-smarmy Lois (and I kept expecting Lana to pop up outta nowhere).

Oh, and that whole imagery vs character development thing, too, I guess ;)

Does that mean I can't wonder how Superman gets a haircut?
[/quote]

I thought he used his laser beam eyeball powers reflected on a mirror to cut his hair. (Notice in the movie that the kid's hair was uncut since he had not learned of his eyeball powers yet.)

The thing that bothered me from the movie is that it is suppose to be taking place after the second movie, and in the second movie, lois discovers Superman's identity, has a hot and wild night with him, and then in the end of the film forgets everything due to the crazy krypton chamber of magic. How then, in the new movie can she remember her hot night with the Sup, but not know his identity? AM I only suppose to accept part of the second movie as real? And how could old whats-his-name fiance cyclops guy believe that this was his son, unless lois, at the time of the second movie, was getting around with every guy in the office like a 2 dollar  :censored:.

Maybe she's never really known who the father was, but hooked up with Cyclops because she she wanted him to have a dad and figured that if she waited any longer he'd know it wasn't his.

He took her memories of him being Clark via the vulcan-mind-kiss he gave her, not necessarily her memories of having done the nasty with the big S.

Even the memory wipe can't fade the memory of a SuperBoink.  Lois is still in physical therapy recovering.
