3340_zip_dump.exe virus? Trojan?
« on: July 01, 2006, 12:31:07 am »
Noticed some thing weird on my computer today the antivirus complained about the file 3340_zip_dump.exe (found in the temp directory). (I had left the computer on over night)

It reports the file as containing the following virus DOS/NRLG-Based.5. I deleted the file and then later today reported different virus VGEN/26171.512. Looks like something is downloading the file and trying to run it. and the AV is catching it. I've found no info on these virus And I have been unable to figure out how they are getting on my computer.

I'm using avira Antivirus personal Edition fully up to date.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Update

Now it reported 3476_zip_dump.exe with LZDamage Virus

It's always good to get a second opinion, just get another good antivirus. I recommend AVG free edition, get it at grisoft.com and see what does it tell.

i am more and more convinced certain security software companies are creating viruses and scaremongering about ones that don't exist.every time i download any anti spy/adware,firewall or anti virus it always says your computer is infected-the funny thing is i did this after i had reinstalled windows from a complete drive reformat and if your windows disc is not infected then this is impossible(i think),its the bit at the end of the free download that says"to remove these infections pay us 20$",hmmmm!

Well, can't talk about others, but the free edition of AVG is fully functional and free, not nagware or anything, works beautifully. But you're right that many "security" software tries to make the user paranoid to the bone, so it's easier to get the money.

AVG is the best free antivirus program, if not the best overall
