PinMame cab, next phase (monitor suggestions ???)
« on: July 03, 2006, 02:44:44 pm »
Hi All,

I have the itch to make some changes to my cab and was hoping you all could throw some suggestions my way.

You can see the cab at:

Ok, so I'm really itching to get a bigger monitor and move it closer to the player...   Currently a 19 inch computer monitor.  The new monitor needs to look good while playing PinMAME (so higher res the better, and it needs to play, MAME and all the consoles, etc....).

While I like the idea of going with widescreen LCD mounting it vertically, I don't like when things get stretched out...... so unless I can avoid that, it's not really an option.

I have been looking at a 21.3 inch Samsung LCD (4x3), but to be honest, lots of bucks and it only get me an extra 2 inches over the current monitor.

The cabinet is 22 inches wide.... it looks like a 25 inch monitor will sneak in there (at least width wise.  Depth may be a problem.

So, anyone have any suggestions on a some UXGA or SVGA 25 inch montors ?  LCD would be great because it would free up some room in the cabinet (which means I could get the sub in there).  CRT of course will look even better for gaming, so I'm open to both.   Let me know!

Also time to get a dedicated PC, but I think the monitor is going to impact what kind of PC I get cause there isn't much room in that cab, given how I have it set up... (it wastes a lot of space).

Thanks everyone.
Jim

Thanks.
Jim

I recently picked up a 21" NEC monitor 0n ebay for $95 delivered.  I'm planning on using it on (one of) my next project.

I'll keep an eye out for that as an option.

Also, I just measured the cab again...  it's exactly 23 inches wide....  which is is just shy of what I think I need for a 27 inch montior...  anyone know if I can squeeze one of those baby's in there ???

My 27" TV is about 25" wide in the shell. I would think that if you shelled the monitor, you could get a 27" in a 23" wide cab, but you likely wouldn't have alot of room to put a frame around it.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.
