trackball dimensions?

Hi, I've been window shopping for trackballs for my MAME cabinet and I came across the kind that has a 2 1/4" diameter trackball.  I emailed the seller to ask him how large the whole housing of the trackball is (trying to estimate if I'll have enough room on the underside of my CP) and he said it was 2 1/8" from top to bottom.

I wrote him back and questioned how can the diameter of the ball be 2 1/4", but the housing is only 2 1/8"?

He answered that the ball sticks out of the top of the housing.

Does this sound right?  Does anyone have the measurements from top to bottom of the housing of this size trackball and the standard Happs 3" trackball?

I think I may have enough room.  I know I can find a spinner that has a relatively small footprint.

Yes.

Both Happ and Betson housings are about 2.5" in height for the 3" trackballs.
