Brown CRT..? + TV problems (sort of..)
« on: March 09, 2003, 02:12:38 am »
I read at the 8liners site yesterday (when looking at the TV -> RGB monitor chassis) that you can judge a CRT by its color and that gray is good and brown is bad.. the old Electrohome G07-CBO I'm about to try to fix has a reddish-brown color tube (at least under the anode cap -- currently the cleanest spot on the tube).  Should I even bother trying to fix it, or does this mean the tube is definitely/100% busted?

Also another question.. I have a 25" TV I want to convert into an arcade monitor with the 8liners chassis.. currently, the TV works but the screen contracts to almost nothing when the tube gets warmed up.  This -- I would assume -- has nothing to do with the CRT itself, does it?  Don't want to convert and then have the same issue.

He means the front of the screen being brown...some older CRT have a brownish color to them.  Careful with the Electrohome, I can't get the pincushioning out of mine and the 8liners guy wasn't too helpful, here's his reply:

Hi,
It seems that the chassis is not compatable with this tube....

Try it in another picture tube.

Did you read my tech info at:

He seems to keep pointing you back to his web page that isn't very detailed so be careful on which one you order, the electrohome had 8 pins but it used a 10 pin neckboard.  The 8-pin neckboards do not fit on the electrohome monitors.  Luckily I had another Wells Gardner that this board did work on.

I'm not sure about your second question...sorry...

Oh, no.. the Electrohome tube is going to be reattached to to its original chassis after I attempt to repair (pretty much rebuild/replace) it.

I don't think the tube is bad on the 25" TV, though, giving it some thought.. it likely wouldn't display any picture at all.. and when the image isn't too large/small it looks pretty good.
