Hack TV Power
« on: March 09, 2003, 01:43:59 am »
I can't afford a WG D9200.  I have to use a TV, but it'll be behind glass and I don't want to use the remote if I don't have to.  Should it be easy to hack the power so it comes on as soon as it is plugged in?

Try this:  Use a paperclip or toothpick to hold the powerbutton "in".  Do this when powering on, but hold it in and jam the paperclip/toothpick alongside the button to hold it there. Now unplug/plug the set....

For me, this allows me to control the power with the plug.  "Shorting" the power button this way is not permanent...I can remove the paperclip whenever I want, and it works.  The only downside is that the remote will not work when the power button is shorted...but like you, I have no need for it in my cab.

Good Luck....this is easy and cheap(free) to try....

For my TV(s), I found the power switch, and soldered two wires on to the power contacts.  Then I wired these to an arcade pushbutton located on the top of the arcade.  So I just press the button to turn the TV on - much the same way you would press the momentary contact button on the front of your set.  Very simple, but be VERY careful when working in the case of the TV.

the cheap-o 27" toshiba available at Best Buy will turn on if it loses power while on. It will also remain in S-video mode. I tested their display model in the store. This seems to be the ideal solution IF you need to pick up a TV for your cabinet.  They are $249.oo at best Buy. Maybe cheaper online??
