I purchased an Elo touchscreen monitor. It's the Elo 1525C and can be seen here: http://www.elotouch.com/products/crts/1525c/default.asp. This was an ebay purchase - the buyer said the monitor was working and had a picture of the monitor with a display screen.

I unboxed the monitor (it was packed well)
I plugged the power cord in and turned it on
I got a green light, but no picture
I plugged a computer into it and turned it on. It clicked and clicked (like it was adjusting resolution) but never came on. I tried it in another computer - same thing. I called Elo who told me the monitor is out of warranty as of November of last year.

Any ideas? Something a novice might be able to fix?

Was it guaranteed to not be D.O.A. ?
Does it require specific drivers?

Maybe contact the seller.

No, it wasn't gauranteed not to be DOA. I contacted the seller, but I haven't heard back from them. The ad clearly states that there will be no refunds, credits, or returns on the equipment no matter what the conditions are upon it's delivery.

As for the drivers... It will not give me a picture even if it's plugged into nothing. I get the clicking sound if I plug it into a computer. The screen has absolutely no light coming from it.

Hope this helps. I opened the case hoping to find a lose wire or blown fuse and didn't see anything. What I did notice is that it really looks like it's just an overlay on a 15" monitor and if I get another 15" monitor, I might be able to connect the overlay from this monitor onto a different monitor. Just a thought at this point, as I hope to get this monitor working.

If that is the exact model you have it uses iTouch surface wave tech and apparently there is no overlay involved.  Probably very difficult to move to another monitor if not impossible.  I had an LCD model that clicked constantly.  The power light went on and off with each click.  I replaced the 12V power brick for the monitor and it worked fine after that.  Sorry that will not help with a CRT unit.

no matter what any monitor with on screen menu(digital) will show this even without signal in so if you don't get this then your fault is on the monitor itself, also a green light usually denotes your monitor is up and running

I repaired an ELO touchscreen monitor a while back for a friend who owns a tavern. His pulltab program uses ELO monitors. Yes this monitor must have a working video signal connected to it when you power it up or the monitor won't come on. You need the specific drivers for it. In my friends tavern the monitor is a VGA mode .

I'm not getting the on screen menu with nothing plugged up. When I plug a computer up it keeps clicking - as soon as I unplug a computer the clicking stops. (on multiple computers it does this). So, it sounds like the monitor is toast?

What resolution/refresh rate is the pc you are connecting it to running at?

The clicking could be the monitor failing to sync if you are running at a refresh rate/resolution (horizontal sync) beyond it's specs.

I suggest changing your pc resolution to 640x480 at 60Hz on you PC, then plugging in your touchscreen. See what happens then.... I had an old touchscreen that would only support 800x600@60Hz...

I'll try it - the computer was just booting up though. Post. Not in windows already. I'll try it on a couple different video cards in a few different computers.... why not.

Did you get the drivers and such?

They even had a diagnostics utility of some sort.

Should I even need drivers? I mean, shouldn't the on screen display come up if it's not plugged into a computer?

looks like we have a difference of opinion on whether a monitor will work without signal or not, well all i can tell you is what i have encountered-every digital monitor tft or crt i have worked on all have the ability to be manually switched on and the onscreen menu accessed using the buttons, its true that all digital monitor do have the option to be automatically switched by a signal from the vga card but you should be able to overide that-but perhaps you have the one type that i've not seen yet,why don't you just email elo and ask them?

Acording to the manual.....
The OSD menu can be locked and unlocked.
Whether or not you should still be able to see it with no computer signal, I'm not sure.

Power the monitor on.
Press and HOLD menu button for a few seconds.
See if that brings anything up.

Try the drivers.......can't hurt.

My LCD made by ELO for another Co will display NO SIGNAL on the screen and then go into power saving shutdown almost immediately if it does not sync with a compatable signal.   It is limited to sync with a signal of 800x600 or 1024x768. It may also go lower but my properties gives 800x600 as the lowest selectable.  The bootup screen will display before windows comes up if my  monitor is turned at about the same time as the computer.

Best thing to do is set your video card to a 800x600 or lower on another monitor before you boot your computer so you know the output will be compatable.

Ok, I would think the monitor would display a "no signal" if it doesn't get a signal or a machine posting. I've set my computer to 800x600 and turned it off. I plugged the monitor up and then turned the computer back on. The monitor just clicks away. If the non-stop clicking isn't a clue - what if I took pictures of the monitors guts? I don't see anything burned looking.

Then my question is - Should I take this monitor to a repair shop? Like a tv repair shop? Or do we think it's doomed?

Is your monitor green light on solid or does it flash?

It's solid. I saw flashing as a troubleshooting measure in the booklet. I also tried holding down the menu button while/after turning it on. So far no good.

Was your shipping "insured" ?  ???

Starting to sound pretty dead to me.
Unless you can find an obvious break somewhere inside.
Solder, connector, something.

Looking inside reveals nothing out of the ordinaly for me. I pressed down on all the connections. I'm thinking I'll send it to a monitor repair shop. Just to see what my options are...

Couple questions -

1. How do I turn up screen volts?
2. How do I check the signal decoder?
3. And tell me more about the VGA lead?

I'm a monitor newb!
