Ms Pacman Screen Problem
« on: June 24, 2006, 11:51:27 am »
My dad recent purchased an old Ms Pacman original that was in great working shape.  While playing the other day the screen started acting weird and it appears that possible the hor. sync is messed up.  The monitor powers up (slowly but it does) but when the picture comes up its very rapidly scrolling sideways and looks really bad.  Anyone have any ideas?

the most probable reason for it starting slowly is down to electrolitic capacitor failure, this could be also the fault on your horizontal hold, but first check the horizontal hold adjustment pot on the monitor chassis-try adjusting it as it could be just dirty, another problem considering the age of the cabinet is dry solder joints on the chassis.

Its a Samsung Monitor (the monitor is close to new) I adjusted the monitor synchs and i DID get a steady picture but the screen had a white cover (for lack of a better term) with about 4-5 verticle lines throughout the picture.  I adjusted all the knobs but was unsuccessful in getting a clear picture.

Overly white and thin lines could be that the flyback SCREEN control needs turned down just a tad.
This control is on the flyback itself.
Should be a FOCUS control there as well.

Ok heres the update.  When i turn the flyback control down the white goes away but the screen goes back to the funky horizontal messed up screen thing.

Ok this time i finely adjusted it and got the picture looking pretty good actually but it does seem to go back to the rapidly scrolling screen when you arent actually playing the game but its just on the normal no credit screen.  Now im at a loss as to what to do

hmmm..... Do you have an actual Samsung model number?
It may be a slight sync adjustment issue.

i think the tube is samsung, the chassis is different-likely you have a multi sinc monitor and its just having a few problems with board output, please try adjusting your horizontal hold and check that both horizontal and vertical sincs are linked on the monitor signal input plug
