Wow! My First Post
« on: June 20, 2006, 06:33:29 pm »
I love the arcade scene and I am very happy to be relating my questions to arcade enthusiast alike. I don't have a cab, but I am getting my PC prepared. I love mamewah and Mala as a frontend. I don't have any problems with setting them up, but I can't figure out how to get mamewah to play the sound in game previews and Mala is playing snes and nes game previews pixilated. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I have been searching but can't find the answers I am looking for.

I can't figure out how to get mamewah to play the sound in game previews

Edit mamewah.ini and set 'music_movie_mix' to either 'pause_music' or 'merge':

This sets how MAMEWAH handles the mix of music and movie sound, when preview movies are playing.  Available settings are:

mute_movies = music continues, movie sound is muted
pause_music = movie sound plays, music is paused
merge = music and movie sound is mixed together

Please note that not all previews have sound..  Most do but some don't and this is because either the game never actually had sound for the attract sequence or the default for that game had the attract sound disabled.

Mala is playing snes and nes game previews pixilated
Maybe it's a problem of the used video resolution on your PC and the videos are stretched/scaled. You can force MaLa to use a specific resolution like 640x480 in the options dialog on the gui -> display tab.

Thanks soooo very much for your replies. I tried those settings in mamewah a few times but the ini kept resetting so I gave up. I will give all suggestions a try.

I finally got Mamewah playing sound in game previews, thanks a million. It was so easy that I could kick myself.

As for Mala, Mame game previews play fine but most of my Snes and Nes previews start out with gray pixilation and as the figures move around in the preview it clears up in the direction they are moving. This is not an issue with Mamewah so I was just concerned that I did not set up anything wrong or using the wrong codec. Thanks.

My System:
WinXp
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard
AMD 3200 CPU
Geforce 6200 Video Card
512 Ram (was 1Gig but had bad memory)
40 Gig and 120 Gig HD
SantaCruz Sound Card
DirectX 9.0c

Apparently my video issues in Mala were due to the codec I was using (K-Lite 267s). I installed the latest version (K-Lite 2.72) but then the game previews either took long to display or would not display unless I clicked the mouse. I also could not scroll through my game list (Snes). I uninstalled codec pack 2.72 and tried xvid codec 1.10.
I got this error Zugniffsverletzung bei address 004BB58C in module mala.exe lesen von address 0209A000
Now everytime I try to start mala I get this message and can't access my task bar. I have to resatart my pc.
I have no problems with Mamewah and game previews. Thanks
