Yes!!! Asteroids Rules!!! Too bad you can not make it look as good as the arcade unless you have a real vector monitor

I got a chance to see a real Asteroids, it had been 20 years or more since I saw a real one.
It's the bullets man!!! the bullets are so bright

... you just can not reproduce that on a raster monitor!!!
I tried tweaking MAME emulated Asteroids a lot before I finally got a real one. I even tried that AsteroidsGL emulator from
http://caesar.logiqx.com/php/emulator.php?id=asteroidsglThis one is really cool because you can substitute different bitmaps for the shots so they look more like the real thing. You can sort of "emulate" that "electron bath" glow that you get from a vector monitor. You can even edit the shot bitmaps, make them different colors, textures, sized, etc...
I even got a 27" presentation monitor

like the readme file said to get for the best visual perormance. This emulator is really good vissually, but the gameplay jitters ocaisionally.
So I figured the only way to make it look like the real thing is to actually get the real thing!!! so I went out and got a dedicated Asteroids machine...So I now have a full MAME cab and a dedicated Asteroids machine!!!...ahhhh...LIFE...IS...GOOD!!!

So what about all the other vector games?
Fortunately, the color vector games look really good on a non-vector monitor in my opinion. The higher the resolution on your monitor, the better they will look. So I am playing those on my MAME cab.
Now it has been a very long time since I saw a Tempest or Space Duel...so that opinion may change if I get a chance to see a real color vector game again...
