Vertical Roll Issue
« on: June 13, 2006, 09:30:43 pm »
Howdy all.

I am at my wits end with my monitor and wanted to try and see if anyone out there had any advice after searching through the forum for hours.

I have a SI-527DS-SY monitor, (Sharp Image Sony 27" Dual Scan) that has a vertical roll issue.

I am using the Ultimate Arcade card.  I finally got the split screens with black bar in the middle corrected.  I have a nice full screen now but cannot get it to stay put!  It will stay for a minute after MUCH fine tuning with the vetical POT, then it will slowly start to roll from top to bottom.

What do the monitor experts think?  Anyone see this monitor/issue before?

TIA

Silver

Is that quite an old monitor? CGA/EGA/RGBHS?

Could be that the monitor is expecting bigger vertical syncs. The ArcadeVGA (I assume thats what you mean) I believe outputs 1V syncs (like most VGA cards) whereas some old monitors need/expect 5V syncs.

You can buy an adapter/booster (Ultimarc, who sell the ArcadeVGA, sell one I believe). But this may not be the reason. Check your settings in the driver options - some ATI (on which these are based) allow you to change the syncs to composite/positive/negative which may also help.

If it is an ArcadeVGA I would suggest emailing Ultimarc, who are both extremely knowledgable and very friendly.
