Hiding the 'Windows' logos...
« on: March 06, 2003, 10:45:53 pm »
I've been trying to hide any evidence of Windows while booting  the MAME cab.  So far, I've ONLY managed to change the Startup Screen logo, but have not been able to change the smaller dialog that appears just before the autologon in Windows2000.   (the smaller Windows logo banner)

Any idea hot to replace this one?  Oh, also the one that appears when shutting down.

Thanks!

Nope... TweakUI doesn't do this for me.  I want to change the startup Windows Logo.   Anyhow, I managed to do it by changing the file C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\NTOSKRNL.EXE as explained here:  http://www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_00027.asp

Anyhow, I now want to change the logo on those smaller logon windows that appear after the large startup image.  Any idea how to do this?   surely someone has managed to completely hide the prescence of Windows 2000 on their cabs before?!

You can use TweakUI (or any of those Tweak programs) to autologon to your Windows 2000.  So when you turn on your machine you will only see the Windows 2000 log in screen for a split second as it autologin's and continues to boot.

Huh?  I can do that in Windows 2000 from within the Users control panel.  no tweak needed.   But even before this small logon wiondow, a similar one appears for 10 seconds or so, and displays some startup information  ('preparing network connections.'..   etc)

That is the one I need to remove or change.

Nevermind.  Here you go:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20423053.html

Thats sort of a long confusing thread but the answer is clearly marked at the bottom.  Involves some hacking of ntkrnl file(s) so when you do this I believe it will be a pain to do any sort of Windows Updates.  Just make a backup of your files you are modifying.

Hacking to change the apperance of a window is one thing, but removing it is probably a bad idea.

Remember, regardless of popular belief all of those messages that windoze gives you are there for a reason.  One day you'll statup your cab and it'll freeze and you'll wonder why.  It'll have something to do with removing that one little window.

Thanks Jakobud.  That thread explains exactly how to do it.  I now have all boot logos showing MAME logo instead of Windows...

Thanks!
