« on: May 30, 2006, 08:31:56 pm »
Does MAME32 require DirectX under win32 and if so does it use SDL?

MAME never used SDL, although someone said that he had a working SDL version of MAME. IIRC, MAME always used DirectX since it changed from DOS to Windows as main development platform. However, I don't know if the old MAME32 used DirectX before the core changed to Windows.

I think mame 36 used directX. Some of the mame devs have a build of mame using SDL (under Linux) but I don't think anything has ever been released publicly.

Yes, a couple of devs have an SDLMAME. I think it would be good for the official MAME to use the SDL interface, and then retain the D3D one for the effects in the Windows version. But, is it SDL compatible with MAME's license nowadays?

I think AdvanceMame can use SDL for Windows.

Yes, a couple of devs have an SDLMAME.

Can you get a copy of that for me? The reason I want one is for a guy who is trying to get it to work in ReactOS.

I can't. They said they have it and eventually might release it, but such release hasn't happened yet, AFAIK.

I think mame 36 used directX.

FWIW, official mame went directX when it went windows at 0.37b15 (May 2001).

AFAIK, the Mame32 derivative was directX from when it started in 1997 (I think version 0.26, anyone?)

(edited possible first mame32 version)
