Game Laucher rom separation by genre
« on: March 04, 2003, 06:58:34 pm »
In regards to setting up game launcher:

Everything appears to be working properly, however, my arcade games list is too long.  With the 2k or 3k games that are out there, is there a well organized way to separate the games by genre or year etc in game launcher?  Basically, Id like to know if anyone has been able to setup different "sub-classes" in game launcher.

Another quick question glauncher:  Is there a way that I can choose to have an mp3 play DURING a game instead of the games actual sounds?  For example, in SF2, I want to hear the game's sounds but in pacman i perfer to listen to an mp3.

I don't remember where I got the tool and the link in the txt file is dead so I'll host it on my space. It uses the catver.ini file and the newest one is in the zip file. njoy.

i really appreciate your post!

It seems like this will only work for the dos version of mame?  I installed the dos version and tried it, but it didnt generate any files-- at least not that I could find.  Has anyone else had any success with this program or one that is similar to it?

thanks everyone!

No, this worked with mame.exe (windows command line version) and mame32.exe too. When browsing for the mame.exe choose all files from the scroll down. The program does work. I have used it many times. Tip: Make 1 map file.

The error it gives me is that it cant find mame.cfg   I made a copy of mame.ini and named it mame.cfg, and it seemed to be running fine, but still did not produce any output files.  I will play around with it more tonight since it seems to be exactly the program I am looking for.

I will let you know how it works out...

Thats weird since the only cfg file GLMT.EXE needs is Template.cfg  ??? change the options/paths you want in Template.cfg so that the output files will have those values present.

mame.ini and mame.cfg have nothing to do with this program operating at all. This is not a hard program to use  :-\

How do you avoid confusion??? All these different locations for stuff...I think your problem is that some paths have spaces in them like "C:\Documents and Settings\.." or the ...\**********\Desktop\.."

Do this. Start over and use "c:\glaunch" for your game launcher directory and "c:\mame" for mame. Make a subfolder like "c:\glaunch\working\" or something. Put all the files you need in there and then try to run the program.

I can't take it. I made you the files myself. DOWNLOAD IT HERE All you need to do is fill in the paths 'n stuff for each cfg file. I'd use a search and replace program to do it.

Here's a screenshot of what options I used. I didn't select the one because I have all the roms anyway. I did get the error you did but I didn't get it when I unchecked the one that I did.

Hmm interesting tool.  Never messed with this before.  Is all this is doing is creating the ROM and MAP files for each genre?  What are the batch files for?  It looks like they copy roms around from one directory to another.  Can you explain this a bit jets?

Yep, those batch files will copy the zip files for each catergory to whatever dir you like. The only reason I can see anyone using them is to make use of the option in gamelauncher that "looks' into a folder for roms rather than refer to the .rom file.
