Here's a quick write-up on the progress of connecting a Sega Genesis to a standard resolution (CGA) arcade monitor...
To start, the Genesis A/V out on both a Model 1 and Model 2 will output pure RGB with a composite sync. I also discovered that a Playstation 2 Breakaway Extension cable ($5 @ Radio Shack) uses the same 9 pin mini DIN connector as the Model 2 Genesis. Luckily, the Beston arcade monitor I'm using shows a great picture with only the composite sync from the Genesis connected to the horizontal sync in.
However, one issue I've found is the color purity. I'm almost 100% positive I've got the outputs matched, as I tested the RGB wires individually before connecting. But, the picture below shows the image after all connections have been made.
I'm not sure why this is happening--any ideas? Do I need to tone down the signals from the Genesis with some resistors?
