Mamewah Bombs out in middle of a game
« on: May 22, 2006, 05:36:15 pm »
First of all Mamewah is awesome and any help I receive is greatly appreciated.    I have been dealing with this problem myself for quite sometime and would like to get it fixed as my cabinet is 95% completed.

This doesnt happen all the time nor in every game but basically when playing a game , usually 4 player, but sometimes 2 player,  we will be playing a game,  usually one that requires multiple buttons requiring alot of hits at a time such as fighting games,  the screen cuts into about 3/4 of the screen with mamewah inside of it and back on the main mamewah menu but completely frozen.   I check task manager and it says not responding,  Mame.exe is also running,  I have to end both and start all over,   this is very frustrating,   I know ive f'd up something with the ini or control mappings or something but here is what I have tried so far:

MY setup:   4 players with 7 buttons on 1 and 2,   7 buttons on players 3 and 4 but only 4 are mapped.   No buttons are mapped the same nor to any keys such as CTRL/SHIFT/CAPSLOCK/TAB/INSERT or anything like that,  all numbers and letters.    I am going through an IPAC 4 from Ultimarc  (awesome also by the way).      I have used both the mame defaults and remapped everything in Mame one button at a time and either way it still does the same thing.

I have searched this forum but cannot find anything related, ive spent countless hours trying to fix it and every time I think I have it fixed it happens again.   Can someone give me any tips?  or an INI file or something that I can use.   MY board is setup almost exactly like a slikstik quad with no spinner or 4 way controller.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me,  you are all the reason ive gotten as far as I have!

It does sound like a mapping issue. A couple of things I would try:

Try running mame directly, and see if you can get it to quit/hang. If it doesn't happen there, then it might just be a mapping issue in Mamewah. If it does happen there, then you have eliminated Mamewah as the issue.

Does this happen with other emulators, or just mame?

What version of Mamewah are you running?

Anything in the log file for Mamewah?

What are your mappings for ctrlr files and what are your mappings for your
keys?

Are you running Mamewah as a shell or is Explorer running in the background?

Something else I might suggest would be to grab a "keycodes" program. I don't have an ipac yet, but I assume it has a utility to show you what is being pressed at any given moment. This could tell you if maybe you have some random key presses thrown in on occasion.

I fixed problem like this by going into my ipac programming and removing all of the alt commands.  IE: TAB, ENTER stuff like that.  Because anytime th P1 button was hit while other buttons were being pressed I would have the same problemns that you have described.  Once I removed those functions it made my cab virtually "kid proof"

If this is only a problem when run from Mamewah (as suggested try from a commandline), then try using the {safelaunch} parameter...
