mame in 24 bit color mode qwestion? any help?

Hello, i just would like to know if theres a way to make Mame to work properly in 24bit mode... what do i mean?
well i got an old PC i want to set'up for my Mame cab , its a amd 700 MHz with 128 MB ram and i believe its got like 32MB video, good enough to play almost every classic game, the problem i see its that when i set my computer to work at 800x600 16 bit and use Mame, the games show a withe screen , all of them, but when i use 800x600 24bit mode in my computer and run a game, the game come out just normal, but' (theres always a butt)  some games fill all the screen and some don't, I'm only running games in vertical mode with the -hws -rol option and the still don't fill the screensome come out fine and some come out small, i have a PC at work that runs Mame in 16bit mode just fine and all games come out just perfect, the whole screen ,so i just thought its a lack of 24 bit support on Mame, but at the same time since in my computer all the games come'out with a withe screen when i use 16bit mode in my PC i don't have a way to see if the game comes with the right size in 16bit mode...

does anyone had the same problem? about the withe screen in 16bit mode?  thanks
