Freetar Hero
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:52:09 pm »
I didnt see this posted. Forgive me if this has.

Its a Guitar Hero type simulator for the PC. It will have Gamepad support etc when its finished. They are going to be releasing the beta editor soon, then the frontend will come later.
There is a video of the site that shows the editor in action.

Taken from the site:

This is the first of a two-part project to create a totally FREE PC rhythm based game that you can use any game pad with. Including guitar-shaped ones. Create and play your own songs, the way YOU want. The beta version of the editor will be released to the public soon, with the game portion a little later on.

So where can we find a usb guitar controller :)

Enough with the sarcasam........

While I'm excited by the project I'm rather worried that they are going about it the wrong way.  It's been my understanding that beatmani sims created in the past started by making a translator/converter to read the song files from the actual game.  This way a song library is already available upon the initial release.

I actually looked into something similar for doing a donkey konga sim.  Usually (note I said usually) once you get into the dvd so you can read it, you'll find that the files that handle the notes are some sort of text file, similar to a guitar tab and it's a simple matter of figuring out what the heck the symbols mean and converting it.

Hey that's another great idea... I wonder if they'll add a guitar tab converter?  Mind you guitar tabs have problems noting beat length, so a song wouldn't work as is... but feeding one in would give you all the necessary notes and thus a person could just match them up to the music.

Hey Howard, I agree, a guitar tab converter would be an awesome idea.

I am a very big fan of the guitar hero series, I think it's an absolute blast, but if I could make my own songs then I would have so much more fun with it.

Hopefully they'll add some more information soon, the site provides us with absolutely no details.
I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...
