To extend the life of the flyback, the metal cage around it needs to have around a 1/4" wide area shaved off all the way around the opening where the focus and screen controls are. The black line I drew on the cage shows about how much to cut away. I used a nibbler tool to do it, but a hacksaw could probably be used. The cage has to be removed from the chassis to do it though. The two vertical output transistors are also bolted to the cgae so they must be unsoldered from the board to allow you to remove the cage.
This mod allows more airflow around the flyback so it runs cooler plus it is less likely to arc to the frame.
