Anyone Used Zinc?
« on: May 09, 2006, 10:31:23 pm »
Has anyone any knowledge of zinc and how it works? i am thinking that it is an emulator for games that need specific hardware that mame cannot handle??  advice and knowledge from people who have used it would be much appreciated

A lot of people use it. From what I understand, instead of relying strictly on the CPU for graphic emulation, it uses your video card. Some people say the emulation isn't as accurate.

I know there is a frontend specifically for Zinc that makes setup tons easier, try searching for it.

It can be set up with mamewah, but the frontend helps you get the configurations down because zinc has no gui.

Never heard of it. :-\  Try the search.  Also, you can check compatibility with mamewah over at www.mameworld.info.  I know there is a ton of info if you use the search, but you can certainly find enough info to get you started.  You are not the first and not the last to set this up.   :dizzy:

It is one of my favorite emulators.

Just because I hate being a dick:

That seriously took me twenty seconds with no prior knowledge of its existence.

I have used Zinc and love it.  I would recomend HowardCs tool for mapping your controls but otherwise it is much better than MAME for a few good games.

And ENJOY the wiki, dont be scared of it.  Instead of reading our lamo posts go learn up over at the wiki.

Hi,

If you don't want spend time to try to configure Zinc just for trying it.

You can try my Front end ,  and donwload the Arcade Plug'n Play module.

this module includes MAME, ZINC and Modula 2 emulator preconfigured.  You just have to put your roms in a folder and then the front end will run the game with the correct emulator.  Zinc compatible game will run with Zinc automatically.

Try AtomicFE  , http://www.atomicfe.com

Yeah, zinc is great for avoiding colds and sore throats. Try the lozenges!
