Interning in Phoenix, AZ
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:08:01 am »
I know some members live in the area.  I'll be working for Honeywell starting on the 22nd.  It'd be cool to meet some of you guys and steal play your machines.

So what is there to do in Phoenix?  I've lived in Virginia my entire life, and I've never been west of the Mississippi.

there are a lot of drugs in phoenix.  you could smoke crack, meth, dope...or you could snort coke, meth or just drink yourself to death.

and it's hot there..but it's not a humid heat.  it's more like an oven.  so even if you're not on drugs, you can still get baked.

thanks...I'll be here all week.....

I'm still pretty new to the area myself.  We just moved to Scottsdale last September from SF.  Drop me a line at somunny@hotmail.com when you get into town.

I have one machine finished and another jr. sized one that I'm working on now.

You're more than welcome to stop by and hang out.

I'm moving there in about a week. After the game room and theater are up and running you can come over and drink my beer and play some games.

Having spent a fair amount of time in both Blacksburg and Phoenix, I can say with conviction that they are two very different places. ;)

Still, you'll have a great time out there.  Everyone from the East Coast should live out West at some point in their lives.  Good luck!

Hey, where is a good movie theater in Phoenix?  X-Men 3 come out the 26th, and I have to go see it.

You're a lucky man.

Arizona is an open carry state, all you need is a drivers license.  The people of Arizona see carrying a gun the way people in other states see wearing a watch.  They are more friendly to carrying than Texans are.

What will you be doing for Honeywell? I work in the power generation industry and we use a fair bit of Honeywell products.

Well my official job offer is for this position:

Engineering Intern/Co-Op within Mechanical COE-System Modeling-Engine Starting and Operability

From what I understand the project involves an engine for a joint civilian/military helicopter.

No, not really.  While I haven't been in AZ long (nine months), I've only seen one person, who I assume was a civilian, carrying a sidearm.

http://phoenix.citysearch.com/profile/1619977/

Its basically  an arcade junk yard- the guy there would let ya wounder and "find" what ya need.
He had lots of new/used joys buttons- p supplies n stuffs. I picked up a few jamma boards and some side art on a few occasions.

Hopefully its still in business

It's still a good time of year to be in Phoenix...  well, for a bit longer anyway.  June thru August can be pretty unbearable temperaturewise but the rest of the year makes up for it,  Yes - lots of gun nuts here but most have their conceal & carry so you wouldn't know (unless you had the skillz to tell).  Lots of Harkins theaters here but I think the CineCapri had a digital projector so that may be where you want to catch X3.

Give me a shout too if you'd like - I'm in the East Valley (Mesa) and have 2 candy cabs I like to show off.
