Powerstrip and TV Displays?

Hi, i am going to be using a Toshiba 28N33B TV in my cab, but am having trouble finding a service menu for the TV so i can adjust the overscan. Will Powerstrip allow me to resize the display area?, or is there another prog that would do the same??

I think it depends on how you are connecting the monitor to your pc.

For example, if you are using VGA->Scart (European RGB) or other form of RGB input, then you can use powerstrip to control the image.

If you are using Tv-out from your gfx card, then powerstrip will not be so helpful, as the graphics card is internally converting the VGA image to a PAL/NTSC/S-video image to display - which often has overscan. If you are using TV-out I believe there are utilities that let you control the overscan options. (I think ATI radeons have overscan adjust in the control panel).

Yeah its a modded RGB cable i will be using with my TV, as i live in the UK. I will be using a ArcadeVGA card, so i wouldnt want Powerstrip to adjust the Hz of the card at all, as these are all correct and safe with the ArcadeVGA card, i would just want to resize the outputting image to the TV. So Powerstrip would allow me to do this?

Not sure. The width of the image is controlled by the pixelclock and that is hardcoded in the AVGA card resolutions.

You could use powerstrip to create the same resolutions but I don't think powerstrip supports the AVGA card. Also, if you don't use the builtin resolutions of the AVGA card, why not use a normal graphics card instead?

Hmmm yes powerstrip definately does not work properly with an arcadevga card.

wpcmame is also correct - the whole point of the arcadevga card is that it ouputs 'perfect' arcade video signals, so attempting to alter it in any way defeats the point of using the card.

Have you actually hooked this up yet? you may not have significant overscan. (Note that a very large number of real arcade games actually were overscanned  - mainly due to operaters not adjusting them after changing a game).

If it does need adjusting, it will need to be on the display itself in your setup....

I know powerstrip has a "resolution within resolution" option to get around overscan issues, however Powerstrip and ArcadeVGA do have lover's tiffs with each other.. so not a recommended combination.

I'm trying to find a way of adjusting the overscan on my Sony PVM too ( using ArcadeVGA -> TV Scart also ) but the overscan isn't TOOOO bad so I think I'm going to have to live with it.

Hmm, i cant find a service menu for my Toshiba either, im woundering if theres a pot inside the actual TV case that would adjust the screen size

Press sound mute (on remote)- Tv displays sound mute OSD, Then hold down sound mute and press the menu button on the control panel

This should display the service mode data with an 'S' in the corner of the screen. Gives basic geometry and display data.

Press the -- button on the remote - enters frame collapse mode - to set screen v

Hi, yeah ive tried that menu code before but with no luck, as soon as i push the menu button, it just brings up the normal menu screen
