  • This Cab is going to be the end of me!!
Monitor is Betson 27" Kortek Multisync. Tested out of the box with an old computer using a 16mb 3DFX AGP card and monitor looked perfect. Mounted it in the cab yesterday and had to fire it up, however the old test computer's HD died. So, I hooked my main computer to it running 800X600 with a Nvidia Gfrorce 6600GT. Right away I noticed some problems during boot up. On black screens has about a 1" lighter bar to the left and there is also a light feather pattern coming from both sides and stretching towards the middle. This isn't noticeable during game play just on black screens. I tried the built in degauss several times, but it didn't make a difference.

Could it just need some time do to the new orientation and moving around. Or does it just not like the Nvidia card? Or is it something worse and I need to take it back? Any help would be great! I'm starting to sweat over this.
Thanks in advance!

Little more info.. The white bar to the left is there even when the monitor has no input to it. In other words just I just turned it on without the vga cable connected. So, the problem is with the monitor itself. Could it be damaged?

I don't know if it's a verified defect or issue, but both of my Betsons are slightly brighter along the left side - kind of like the issue with the Wega TVs that people complain about.  I don't notice it outside of the n"no input" screen, and that's with a mainly black desktop (and of course it's fine during games).

Thanks tetsu96

After further reviewing I now have a 1"1/2 strip on the left and a 1/4" strip on the right as well.
It is also present during vertical games which is really anoying! I tried turning the contrast and brightness level today, but it didn't help.

Is yours this way as well? Any help from anyone would be great as I am getting ready to call Betson tomorrow for a replacement.

Thanks

Update,

I contacted the local Betson Imperial and talked to Greg here in Phoenix. He is going to exchange the monitor for me. Greg has been great to deal with. I highly recommend for anyone in the area. They also stock the WG if anyone is interested.

We'll see if this corrects the issue and I will of coarse keep everyone posted.

Okay, all I am in some desperate need of help now. I went ahead and returned the monitor for a new one. Upon boot up I discovered the same prob. However, I was able to fix it by decreasing the brightness from factory 80 to about 55 and bingo no more white bar! Total noob defect ;D on my part! Alright now to the prob. The new monitor has got some serous degauss issues and I need advice. This thing has discoloration and darkness in the corners and I have tried both the on board degauss and doing it manually to no avail. Moving the cab just moves the discoloration. Is this something that should settle over time or do I need to bite the bullet and contact Betson a 2nd time? Please help! It has seemed to have gotten better since mounting it in the cab yesterday and leaving it put. Somebody please help the noob! :D

Are the cabinet speakers too close ?

( I have seen this before with other monitor swaps )

Thanks guys. The cab doesn't have speakers installed, so that's not an issue. I will check to see if the monitor has a purity setting in the menu. I don't think it does.  Are monitors supposed to be this sensitive to gravitational pull? I know I read that they are somewhat, but if I move the cab to the left or right this distortion will either get worse or move to a different corner.

The purity setting is in the service menu.  Hold the "up" button on the remote board while turning on/plugging in the monitor.  Be careful to record defaults for things (or otherwise make sure you are changing them sanely) since there is no restore function for the service mode options (what you are doing is setting the user mode defaults).

Just curious......
Did the degauss actually DO anything ?
Ya know..... "bowoing" sound, flicker, etc.
(or something to that effect)

No automatic degauss just basically modifies the problem. Sometimes a tad better sometimes a tad worse.

This is almost comical , but I talked to the guy at Betson today and told him that I would like my original monitor back as it doesn't have any major degauss or geometrical issues. All it had was the white bar and I now know that can be fixed by turning the brightness down 30 points ::)

Good news to report! I got my original monitor back from Betson on Thur and after turning the brightness from factory 80 to about 48 everything is sweet! This Kortek has no geometrical problems. It is perfect out of the box and after turning down the brightness it's rock on! Anyone in the Phoenix area who would like to purchase one of these monitors should call Greg at Betson Imperial West here in Phoenix! He was very understanding and helpful.. Even though I was a noob and a total Pain of a customer :)
