BuddaMAME v0.105 released (updated May 3, 2006)
« on: April 28, 2006, 04:31:14 pm »
Hello,

I have updated my MAME build and the other applications in BuddaMAME to version v0.105.

CPMaker now supports control panel images, marquee images, and cabinet images.

I am looking forward to version v0.106 because I think they will address the multi-monitor problem that MAME, and by extension BuddaMAME, has.

Please report any bugs or feature suggestions to this thread.

Get BuddaMAME v0.105 here.

Regards,
Buddabing

I have added a couple of things.

1) support for instruction cards
2) support for "Z-ordering" (if multiple labels are stacked, you can control which gets displayed on top)

I've also updated the controls.xml in the package to the 5-1-06 version, and I've corrected a few bugs in the GUI.

Regards,
Buddabing

The next version of CPMaker will support Daphne, and any other command line emulator that someone codes up the XML for.

Nice job, Buddabing!

Youy eluded to multi-monitor support coming soon in Mame...  Would that be mainly for support of Playchoice/Punchout type games, or will it facilitate the display of CPMaker (for instance) in a second monitor?

Thanks for the info.

Nice to see a coder that uses xml instead of ini files ;)

The only gripe I would have with this is some of the graphics are a bit off. The actual CP panel dosn't look very nice and the edges are jaggy. With a nicer background image I think the whole thing would look nicer. Also the fonts are a bit ugly, and so is the colouring around it. How about a nicer font, Times New Roman dosn't suit something like this, Arial would be much nicer.

Check out the CP graphics here for example.

All the fonts, images, and whatnot are selectable. The stuff I provided is for an example on how to do your own.

I would be glad to include an example in the package that you have created that looks better.

Now that version v0.106 of MAME is out, I'll test the new multimonitor code to see if the problems have been resolved.

The latter. You can do the Punchout-type games by arranging the two virtual monitors on top of each other and run the game using the correct resolution and aspect ratio parameters. I think Howard posted something about that a while back.

Sorry if I sounded like I was bitching, just that default graphics can have a major impact on the popularity of something. I'm no graphic God, but surely there is some cool artist out there that can help coders like Buddabing with the default graphics. Hell, I've seen some cool CP's been designed and what not, why not support the coders on here and give your skills. Some of the guys in the graphics forums should be able to help. Comon guys!
