Still battling MAMEWAH
« on: April 26, 2006, 01:08:46 am »
Don't get me wrong, I really want to use it, but after fighting it for days, I gave up for a couple weeks.  OK, now I want to get it hummin'.

I have an X-Arcade, 2 player as my CP and I have MAME 104b installed and MAMEWAH v1.61, first should I upgrade either and why?

OK, Mamewah is running but I've still got a couple issues:

1. When I start Mamewah I can select a game and start it, if the Num Lock on the keyboard is ON, but I have to turn it off for the P1 JS to work in the game.  What file do I need to set this in (default.ini?) and what should the values be? (It would be great if someone could provide their config for the X-Arcade).

2. Back in the game selection screen, I have all of the artwork loaded but MAMEWAH doesn't display the screenshots.  I've checked this several times. (I can provide my MAME.ini if it helps).   Can someone also tell me how to change the MAMEWAH background? I downloaded some  .jpg's , but don't know where to put them of how to load them.

3. My last question (for now), a couple games launch with a very small screen and a big bezel (artwork) around them, can this be reconfigured?  how?

4. OK, one more, this is probably easy, I just haven't figured it out yet.  How can I filter the games to the ones I want?  I don't need 6 copies of Donkey Kong and all those Mahjong games I can't (and don't want to) play.
I know there is a way to filter "type of game"  or something, isn't there?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and I'll read any relevant Links that would help.

Thanks Guys, I wouldn't be here without you!!!

No need to upgrade either - that's the latest mamewah and mame is only at 105 so there's no point unless there is a new game emulated.
1. Do you need the numlock to be on at startup of windows?  I think there's a bios option to turn this on/off

2. The display of artwork is from the layouts (eg. mamewah\layouts\classic 800x600\layout.lay) using the MAMEWAH Layout Designer prog and mame.ini within mamewah\ini folder.  Ensure that the artwork you refer to in the ini file is the same as in the layout file (artwork_1_image_path and Artwork Image #1).  The screenshots are png format.  The Layout Designer prog allows you to change the background - Background>Image>choose which image you want

3. Do you want to get rid of the bezel?  In mame.ini within the mame folder (not mamewah) make artwork 0 to remove any artwork from a game, or make use_bezels 0.
### Mame CORE misc options ###
artwork                 0
use_bezels              0

4. Listgen allows you to filter games - http://cpmaker.mameprojects.com/files/LISTGEN.ZIP

Good luck

If you're using a recent version of Mamewah...num lock state should not matter.  And in MAME itself, the same goes...so not sure what is wrong there.

You need to select a custom list (add a suitable ini file first...like mame-1.ini)...and then hit 'Games List Options' > 'Generate Filtered List'.  You can pick to not show clones from there.
