Radeon 9600 component to SDTV problems!
« on: April 21, 2006, 01:31:51 pm »
Hi all, In my cabinet, I have a 2 or 3 year old JVC 27" standard definition TV (AV-27D304) that has a component input on it. The JVC manual says it only supports an interlaced component input (480i). I have an ATI Radeon 9600 (latest catalyst drivers & control panel) video card with the optional DVI to Component adapter (The adapter is set to output only at 480i.)

When I connect the ATI component adapter to the JVC TV, I get very clear video, however it flickers very badly. I think this is due to the TV interlacing the video signal, but I can't seem to resolve this issue.

By comparison, the ATI video card also has an S-Video output and when i connect the video card to the TV via S-Video, The picture barely flickers at all, but it is not as clear. Obviously component is better quality, and I want to use it, but all the settings I try in the catalyst control panel don't help the flickering at all! Some people have suggested using the Powerstrip app instead of catalyst control panel, but i have no experience with this. Does anyone else have this issue, or more importantly A FIX FOR THIS?!?!?!?!?
MAME me!

I believe ArtMAME on these boards is using the same setup you are. I've seen it, and even though it looks nasty in Windows, the games look just fine. Give them a try.

Yeah, I get flickering in Windows XP  :lame: ..., but the games in MAME look great and have no flickering

With this setup, you are kinda limited as to what you can do in Windows because you can only go as high as 640x480 resolution plus the flickering :badmood: .  This in not a big deal for me because I do most of my admin on a secondary VGA monitor and I plan to put  a front end on the machine anyway once I have completed the cabinet  ;D .

I really don't have a fix for it except what I described above.

Are you just trying to play games on your setup or are you trying to do more with it such as surf, videos, etc.?
