mamewah, advancemame, and mame
« on: April 21, 2006, 09:26:36 am »
Without going into too much detail (at work,) after a few hours, I could NOT get mamewah to show my gamelist for mame.  I used 1.61, and advmame .104.  I then downloaded mamewah setup, and that couldn't get things rocking either.

Finally, being frustrated, remembering skadar's thread about component video and a jvc tv (basically my setup) I followed his lead.  I downloaded the regular mame.  Within only a few minutes of playing with the mamewah setup program, it was about ready.  I opened up mamewah again, was disappointed to find no games listed.  Then I used mamewah's menu, and it FINALLY populated the freakin' list.  Very ecstatic was I.

Still doesn't explain why I couldn't get advancemame to work correctly.  Does the fact that advmame uses a file extension .rc instead of an .ini file?  Mamewah Setup only looks for .ini, so I wondered if mamewah can only use the same thing.  I pointed it to the .rc file when I tried configging everything.  I tried so many different things, and nothing really worked.  When at it's core, mamewah will only show two options when pressing two.  A few times, I managed to make it show the third option (something about lists, again, at work, so can't recollect what the option is specifically.

Also, what's with the fact that if you use "ESC" to exit mamewah, then reload it, once you try opening a game again, it'll automatically minimize it, and you'll be left with a black, blank screen, seemingly unable to maximize the game again, AFAIK.  (Found how to get around that sort of.  Have to ctrl/alt/del and stop the game itself, then use mamewah's menu to exit to windows, then reload mamewah.)

Mamewah does nothing with MAME's ini file(s)...so it doesn't matter about the .rc thing - maybe AdvanceMAME uses a difference output to the normal -listxml?  I really don't know, I don't use AdvMAME...

More importantly 'MAMEWAH Setup' is for Mamewah v0.97...so you should NEVER use that for later versions of Mamewah.

As for your last problem, try using {safelaunch} in your commanline_format instead of {nosafelaunch}.
