Changing the monitor in a jamma cab ANSWERED THANKS

The monitor in my jamma cab (kortek probably ftn20) is dead and I have another unidentified Wells Gardner in a quiz machine that I want to swap over.  The kortek is connected to an isolating transformer and the wells gardner is connected via a Euro socket to the large psu in the bottom of the quiz machine.

I have no trouble wiring up the signal side but want to know the following.

1. Can I connect the WG monitor direct to the mains (240 UK)  It is on a 240v supply at the moment but coming out of the psu.

2.   When I have swopped everything over  do I still need the arcade psu in the jamma cab if I am connecting to a pc via a j-pac or does the j-pac get the power it needs from the ps/2 connection.  I dont really want to keep the jamma psu in the cab if I don't need it.

One last thing - I do have qualifications in TV & Radio repair - it's just that they are 28 years old - so please spare me the electricity is dangerous lecture but I would really appreciate some help and advice from someone more experienced with jamma cabs.

the kortek may have 2 voltage inputs depending on how many wire there are on your mains input,if you have 4 wires then 2 are gonna be 240v for degauss and the other 2 120v for the chassis-the wells should be 120v unless its a free range chassis,anyway first job indentify both monitor voltages with a meter,if they are the same swap them,if you need more help then post back after you have checked the voltages

The kortek definitely has four wires and reading off the transformer lugs they are indeed 240 and 120.  The WG is 240V it is connected through a clearly labelled interlock switch that detects the back open.  However what I want to know is if I can connect the WG direct to the mains and loose the transformer that the kortek is connected to?

OK Solved that one.  Fired up the WG connected to the mains direct and it worked fine in the quiz machine, so I guess I can loose the monitor transformer in the jamma cab.  Next question?  If I am using a j-pac do I still need the arcade psu in the jamma cab, or can I go without or take power from the pc.  Not really a monitor question so I will ask again if elsewhere if I get no reply here.

OK so I did what I should have in the first place and searched on removing the psu and of course it is fine to do this - even preferable.   Thanks for the help I was worried about the disconnecting the 120v wires that you identified as deguass so now I am good to go.
