Need help with information on my monitor
« on: April 14, 2006, 09:39:35 am »
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, and new to BYOA, but I'm currently attempting to build one.  I can't find any information on the monitor I have and would like to know if anyone out there knows if it will work with the ArcadeVGA card and if I need the video amplifier or not (or even if i don't should I buy it anyway?)  Thanks for the help, the monitor is a Phillips M08X, with the model number MVA63AAM08X.  I called up phillips who have not record of the monitor on file, and an internet search led to a site that listed it as a JVC CRT monitor, even though my tube clearly says phillips on it.

Thanks for any advice you guys can give a n00b,

Trae

Philips made the picture tube. That number you provided is merely the industry standard picture tube number and that it's made by Philips.

Monitor manufacturers use dozens of different picture tube makers in their monitors. Post a picture of the monitor circuit boards or visit Bob Roberts' Monitor ID page.

Ah that makes sense then. Okay thanks, I will do check the page first and if I can't come up with something I'll post a picture.

Okay, well after further research (I can't get a good picture of the monitor to upload because of it's position in the cabinet) The circuit board is labelled a Wells Gardner 25k7191, so it's 25khz.  Does this mean that the ArcadeVGA card is not going to work?  I had read somewhere that the card only works with 15khz.

If there's anythign I can do to make it work, let me know, thanks for the help guys.

Bah. I hate being stupid. :)  Well, it said 25k, and it's in a mortal kombat 2 cabinet, so I was starting to think it was 25khz.

So the question remains, can it be hooked up to the ArcadeVGA, and do I need to buy the video amplifier?

If I still haven't given enough information I will keep attempting to get a clear picture that I can upload.

Yes, you can hook it up to the AVGA.  Don't know about the amp.

Okay, so I'm trying to now hook up the arcadeVGA card, and I've found all the wires except that I've only found one sync wire, rather than V-sync and H-sync.  I read on the ultimarc page that a combine signal will work, but wanted to verify with you guys if connecting both my H-sync and Vsyn wires from the VGA breakout cable to the 1 sync wire in the cabinet will work or not.

Thanks for any help,
