Final Fantasy CPO - comments requested
« on: April 13, 2006, 04:46:26 pm »
So I've been working on a Final Fantasy themed CPO.  I used the summons Ifrit and Shiva because they are quite popular and they match the 1 player and 2 player colors.  The whole CPO is completely rastered at 300dpi in RGB mode.  The white trim marks the shape of the control panel and the buttons, joysticks, and trackball are marked in white too. (These won't be printed on the final)

Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Way too dark for my tastes. The semi opaque graphics in the background need something other than a pure black expanse of space to contrast against, otherwise, the image dissapears into background completely, and doesn't give the intended "semi opaque" effect.

Well I was planning on making it black to match my cabinet (which will be painted black)

Any suggestions to give it a more opaque feel?

Maybe add a soft glow around the pictures?

thanks for the reply and any input is helpful.

UPDATE:  I just printed a test copy on my home computer.  And for the most part, the opaque shiva looks great.  The colors contrast well with the black background.

However, Ifrit looks terrible.  He almost completely washes out in the black background.  Even the bright orange flames fade into a dark ugly grayish color.  And its literally impossible to make out the edges of the picture.

Also, the smaller non-opaque Ifrit image fades too.  It isn't quite as bad though.  His feet, one hand, and especially his horns blend into the black background.

well as for button setup...

Each player will have 6 game buttons. (the 6 lower buttons)
Then the upper 2 buttons will be coin insert and 1player start or 2player start.

After that I will mount 4 more buttons under the monitor in a somewhat horizontal position.  These will be used to change mame settings and stuff like that.

And don't bother suggesting I move some buttons, because I, being the idiot that I am, already drilled the holes  :banghead:   But I suppose if I really needed to I could just make another CP (but I Really don't want to)

Here is my latest version.

It's mostly the same except for the red border design and the bigger characters are now at 85% opacity.  They look much better when printed at this opacity.

I was hoping on sending this to mamemarquees today, but I really want some feedback first.

I really like this concept, personally I'd run the red and blue boarder lines down the middle to place an edge on the characters where the pictures are cut off, it will hide the fact that the images are cut and still form symitrical balance. I'd also add something of a background to fill the black void, nothing to much, as it may detract from drawing the eyes to the character designs.

Thanks for the reply, but once again impatience got the best of me.

I already sent it to mamemarquees.  ;D

So I guess I'm stuck with what I get.

UPDATE:  Well I just got my artwork in the mail, and I'm quite satisfied with the result.  I'd personally recommend mamemarquees.com to anyone.
