I've got 2 29" monitors available.

first is a Pentranic Tri Res FST (Flat Screen Tube) - this will do 15/24/31k
this monitor is only 3 weeks old

Thanks for the offer, I was looking at sizes around 25" and I cant afford you monitors as lovely as they look.  Do the accept scart and PC resolutions?

;r-Megalo: Why are you not satisfied with your tri-sync Pentranic? Paying like 1000 UKP for a NANAO feels a bit crazy.

it is crazy, but I'm not happy with the FST, the "upgrade" in my eyes was more of a downgrade as the quality of the Pentranic in comparison to the Nanao's I have (and the Sanwa) differs.
My Pentranic is definetly a Rodotron, and the fact that it degauss circuit is on a cold circuit pisses me off tremendously !  :banghead:

I may try a Wei Ya setup in the future , but I've always wanted a Tri Sync Nanao and as this is my personal Naomi cabinet i'm deaing with then I'm not going to skimp. I'm a bit of an expensive whore when it comes to my Sega/Capcom games and cabinets

What do you mean that the degauss is on cold circuit? Is degaussing all the time or what? If that is the case you could easily connect a switch to turn it on/off.

Earlier you stated that you were satisifed with this monitor what I saw. Why do you think the pic quality is worse? I hope my coming Wei Ya penta-sync monitor will as promising as people say.

Btw, how do you know it is a Rodotron? I acutallu had a tri-sync 29" with a remote board like yours, but I believe that Rodotron copy designs from other manufacturers. I believe that Wei Ya is of better quality.

I know its a Rodotron from pictures on there site, the control board is similar to the Wei Ya - with the 75 - 100ohm switch, but the numbr 666 on the right gave it away that it was a Rodotron Tri Sync chassis

Rodotron list it as a CH-666-29
Pentranic list as a CH666, the tube is an FST but the chassis match.

when I say its on a coldcircuit, I mean it does a quick degauss on power up, but will only deguss again when the monitor has been switched off and left off for about 20 minutes or so

How does it disappoint you picture quality wise? With FST you mean flat screen tube, right?

there are companies like herondata, jnc and deith leisure that sometimes sell second hand tested monitors-you can find these contacts on the web, just give them a call and see what they have.also another option is find a local amusement machine operator and give them a try, where are you in the u.k?because i know most of the manufacturers, distributors and alot of operator-i might be able to contact them for you, sounds like you want a 25" multi/switchable sinc-something like a hanterax polo 2 should suffice

Hiya Grant, yea I am in the UK

I've just this morning picked up from Suzo UK a NOS Nanao MS2931 Auto switching 29" monitor

Atomiswave - the FST (Flat Screen Tube), the CRT itself is really really nice, the picture quality is also great, but geometry is off and the deguass circuit is shite.

I think I'm gonna pop the Tri res Pentranic and the 31k Sanwa on eBay this weekend - no point in keeping them now

You can always go down the route of using a TV, as im going to do with my next cab, as us lucky brits have the scart connection, which delivers an identical picture (if not better) that my current 25" WG 7000 monitor. And TVs are a hell of alot cheaper, and bigger sizes than monitors

I have a 27" PVM Sony TV in my cabinet and it's pretty neat using a VGA->SCART lead, and provides a pretty sharp image.

The only issue is that it's only capable of running 60Hz interlaced, and you do notice flicker at a distance (or when I have Windows XP up on the screen)

Am I right in saying that "monitors" with 15-pin VGA inputs will run 60hz progressive (or even more) ?

I'm looking at a few Hantarex monitors on Ebay UK at the moment, and wondering whether it's worth the "upgrade".

NOTE: the VGA->SCART (using Powerstrip) is OK, but should the machine not boot properly (and therefore not load powerstrip + VNC) then you're a bit of a loss without a display to debug what's gone wrong.. whereas a proper "monitor" wouldn't suffer from that I would imagine.

You could get a ArcadeVGA card from www.ultimarc.com, then theres no need for power strip, and it might sort out the flicker, as i havent noticed this with my TV setup and ArcadeVGA card

I'll may look into getting hold of an ArcadeVGA card.

Do you use a VGA->SCART lead ?

The card I'm using at the moment is a Radeon 9250.. which is what an ArcadeVGA is (IIRC) with a different bios.

I don't suppose it could be flashed to become an ArcadeVGA card ?

Yeah i got a scart cable form a seller on ebay, custom made. Not sure about the radeon card, all i know is that the ArcadeVGA has custom res, and outputs at 15 hz, 30 hz, etc

Funnily enough, I called a mate of mine who has a MAME cab and he is using an ArcadeVGA card, so I asked if I could borrow it.

My TV wasn't happy running at the boot frequencies of his card (I think it's a progressive output right ?) so I wasn't able to get any further with it.  :-\     I tried hooking it up to my PC monitor to see what it was outputting, and it reported it was receiving 15hz / 60hz (although it wouldn't display a picture).

Is your TV running progressive or interlaced ?

Im not sure if my TV is running progressive or interlaced, as i havent finished my cab yet, and just tried the cable out quickly on my TV to see if it worked. What happens to the TV display when your PC boots up then?
