WG 1709154 Arcade VGA compatability
« on: April 10, 2006, 09:17:21 pm »
Sorry if this has been covered, but a search turned up nothing.

In order to use an ArcadeVGA card with a WG 1709154 monitor, will I need the video amplifier offered by Ultimarc?  Or should I be able to just hook it in with the card via breakout cable directly?

Thanks a lot.

That Wells-Gardner number you mentioned is only a serial number of the umpteen billion different monitor models that they manufacture. What is the model number?

Now that's more like it. 25", k7000 series, standard resolution, isolation transformer required.

Monitor was working fine in an NBA Jam (converted) cab, want to MAME it.  It will recieve it's power from the original power supply, just want to send video from the PC.

Ultimarc's site says

Quote from: Ultimarc
All VGA cards (including our ArcadeVGA card) produce a RGB signal level of 1 volt. Game boards use a level of 5 volts. But Wells-Gardner and Hantarex (and many other) monitors are specc-ed to accept 1 volt or 5 volts (Hantarex have a switch, W-G have a pot). So for these monitors you can make your own cable or use our pre-stripped and labelled VGA breakout cable.

So, do I need the amplifier board for this model monitor, or should I be able to adjust the pot?  I want to avoid ordering and recieving the AVGA, realizing I need the amplifier board, and re-ordering, re-paying shipping, and re-waiting for the part.

Anyone know if I need the amp or not?

I believe this model requires an amplifier.
