Hantarex monitor picky about input signals (sync problem?)
« on: April 10, 2006, 10:42:06 am »
Im trying to hook up a Hanterex MTC21EQ monitor to some of my consoles (PlayStation2, Dreamcast).
I believe this is a type of monitor that is being used in surveillance, editing, or point-of-purchase environments, since it sports a wealth of options on the back as you can see in this pic:

and a close-up:

I mainly bought this monitor to replace the old Mitsubishi TV which I have in my cabinet right now.
Here's a pic of the Mitsubishi TV hooked up to a Dreamcast with a RGB-SCART cable:

Since the Hantarex also has a SCART socket (which accepts RGB signal) I thought it would be an easy swap. But the only picture I'm getting (even after adjusting all of the pots) is this:

really sharp, but completely scrambled  :(

Both the Dreamcast and the Playstation2 give these type of images when I connect them via RGB-SCART cables.
When I connect the consoles via composite (the yellow RCA plug) I get a stable image, but without the nice quality of an RGB connection:

What REALLY confuses me is that when I hook up my DVD-player via RGB-SCART, it gives me a stable and clear picture  ???

Is this a sync issue? And if so, why is my DVD-player's image visible while it's outputting the same type of signal?
Please someone help me so I can use this Hantarex in it's full RGB glory...

try tweeking your hor phase pot next to the scart, its possible the frequency is slightly different

I tried adjusting the Hor Phase, but it only made the bars move a little bit slower or faster.
When I change the priority switch, I can see flashes of sharp and stable images, so it must definitely be possible to display a proper image.

thats def sinc problem, maybe its a bad scart lead or dry joints on the socket.whats that 75 ohms switch do when you press it?

The strange thing is, that both consoles are working when using the SCART input on the TV that's in the cab.
And the DVD-players works correctly when connected via RGB-SCARt on the Hantarex.

The 75Ohm button gives a little jump in the picture when I push it, but no change.
Could the sync signal coming from the consoles be too weak?

I really doubt that my (cheap) Samsung DVD-player outputs a progressive signal, since it is normally hooked up to a non-progressive TV.
I have one PS2 game that can be set to progressisve output, so I will surely try that ASAP.

dennis,
that the same hantarex monitor i have. when i first hooked up my pc with a arcadevga and homemade vga to scart it gave the exact same picture.
i went to this link which shows the hantarex pinouts : http://www.hantarex.com/pdf/MGGEQ3.pdf

I had originally copied a vga to scart cable from the net. It used a composite sinc which the hantarex does'nt accept. the hantarex needs a seperate horizontal and vertical sync. (pins 10 and 12). I assume that is what the "HV" stands for in the "Analog RGB-HV" above the scart connector on the back of your monitor.
once i rewired the H and V syncs from the vga to the scart the picture was perfect.
I would say your dvd player outputs the syncs seperately thats why it works.
cheers,
sav

WOW! I never expected any more replies on this post. Thanks a bunch for your reply!
Sounds like a really viable solution.
The only caveat is that next to the PC I also have a Dreamcast and a PS2 in my cab that I would like to hook up via RGB-Scart. Is there a way to make those machines send out separate H+V sync?
