computer experts i need your tech opinion!!

Hello all ! i'm getting ready to build a cabinet with mame ,nes ,sega,n64,and,snes. I found out that the n64 requires bigtime computer power so i'm going to upgrade!

i currently have a pentiumII 433mhz w/ 256ram

what do you think i should upgrade to a p3 or p4 ?

and what kind of motherboard ?

if i do upgrade will all my nes and atari games run too fast?

Don't bother with a P3 system.  They're end-of-life units, and for not much more you can get a much faster P4-Celeron based system.

May I suggest the cheaper and better performance AMD processors.

amd has always been the choice for emulation enthusists everywhere.

I could guess that the majority of the people on this site that have built their pcs have used amd processors.  They are cheaper, they are faster and for emulation they have a noticable performance boost.

You get another vote for AMD from me.  My 750 Mhz AMD Athlon was much cheaper than the comparable P3 at the time and still plays 95% of current games well.

That's odd.  I've had absolutely no problem running UltraHLE games on my PII 400MHz with 256Mb RAM.  You sure it's a PII 433MHz?  Sounds like a PII Celeron to me.  Or do you mean PII 450MHz?  That'd make for a rather odd bus speed for a PII faster than 300MHz...

AMD for sure - make sure you keep it nice & cool tho.

The upside of the heat amd cpu's produce... if central heating fails you can always turn on your amd pc  ;D
