WinUAE configuration help
« on: April 03, 2006, 06:46:11 am »
I looked around and it seems there is just tons of information making me confused as to what I need to do to strat a game.  I understand each game needs there own configuration file and that jcrouse and headhaze have created UAEConfiguration applications to help lessen the pain with this process.  However, each UAEConfiguration tool requires that I specify a UAE template file for it to work.   I guess it will create separate template files for each Amiga game I have similiar to the configuration file I initially use.   Problem is ... I do not know how to create an initial template file.

1) How can I determine how much Rom, Ram, Chipset, KickStart  version number, etc .. etc.. options to use to make a template file (I am assuming this is what I need to do)?

2) Even if I knew the information to use in (1) above, I still do not understand how to CREATE and SAVE and template file from within WinUAE anyway ....

3) Clearly one template file does not work for all games, so is there a way to determine which types of template files need to be created for each inividual game?  Where do you find this information?

4) Are there any template files existing (complete set, incomplete set, just a few, etc...) for download for various games?

5) headkaze's UAEConfiguration tool states that it is for the TOSEC set .... what does this mean?

Basically, it would be great to find an idiot's guide as to how to use WinUAE.  I found older guides that explain the WinUAE menu options, but it does not inform me how to actually create a template file or how to go about determining what type of template file needs to be created for various games.

I like the look of the Amiga games from the screenshots, but it really seems like a pain to get them configured to play them via WinUAE .....  Is it all in my mind?

Help someone can help me .....

Hi,

I can offer you better than an "idiot" guide for WinUAE ,  Dowload AtomicFE , and Download the Amiga Plug'n Play module.

Just copy your disk in the adhoc folder and run Atomic .. it will run your games using WinUAE.

I am not really looking for a new frontend since I have spent the past two months gathering emulators andsupport files and configuring the MameWah frontend.

Do you have are UAE templates and a list of games the templates are meant for?

I don't know, look in the module itself if you can find what you need.

I didn't make the module myself. But i think you will find what you need inside.  The way as a Front End runs emulator are very similar . So i think you can use what you find in the module with MAMEWAH.  It is not front end specific but emulator specific.

The Plug-N_play amiga file is an EXE ..... so how can I look into this?   Is the EXE self-extracting which will reveal files I can look at?

Yes, extract it in a folder . And go in the plugnplay folder , then browse you will find files.

If you did'nt install AtomicFE before, it won't run  but you can look files.

Yes, the following 5 UAE configuration files exist:

Amiga500.UAE
Amiga1200.UAE
Amiga2000.UAE
Amiga4000.UAE
AmigaCD32.UAE

I am assuming I now just need to know which Amiga games should be associated with which configuration file .... would you agree?

I don't know exactly how it works. But in case of the module, you have just to put your disks in the roms folder and Atomic runs the game.  I didn't really test in depth.
