Making One For A Fiend
« on: April 01, 2006, 06:32:42 pm »
My buddy who already has 3 machines (including a Golden Tee) that he bought off eBay told me yesterday that he wants me to build hime a  cabinet to use for just driving games.

Nothing big, but big enough to have a nice feel...

So I jumped on the PC and started tweaking one of my other designs and I came up with this.. (see attached)

The pieces are layed out so that they will all come out of a single sheet of melamine. I'll need to get some plywood for some of the inside pieces.

It dawns on me that I have alot of these plans all laid out in the program that the waterjet uses and that others may be interested in them as well.

If anyone is intereestd please let me know and I will see what I can do about exporting them in a way that there are usable dimensions so that others can follow them if they wish.

Due to the different wheel types games use, and that the good mid-90's and up racing games run slow as crap, I don't think I'd enjoy a MAME based driving cab.
I'd either use a PS-2 and Grand Turismo on there, or just use a PC for PC based driving games. PC racing games like Need For Speed: Underground and the Colin McRae Rally series are way better than anything in MAME.

Not trying to poop on your buddies idea, just make sure he understands what he's getting so you don't do a lot of work for nothing.

Honestly im not a fan of the design but thats just me.  I wouldnt use mame tho for a driving cabnet unlest you only wanna play pole postion and out run.  You wont be playing any games like rush or crusin' world.

TOK/DK...

Thanks for the heads up on this, I hadnt considered that aspect of it when we started planning the project.

I havent played many driving games on a MAME and the ones I had played were usually the older ones played with a joystick (which really bites) so I always assumed that the lack of playability was due to the controls.
