Question about storing extra CPU boards inside arcade machines

I have a nintendo vs unisystem cabinet that has the 'cage' in it to put the circuit board in.  It has 4 slots (i think originally for the 4 board DK CPU).  Anyway, I have 2 difference VS. boards.  Would it be alright to put both of them in there if only one is hooked up?  The other board would just be essentially stored in there until i wanted to switch them up.  The only thing is that they are in pretty close proximity of each other, so if one of the boards 'overheated' or got warm or something like that, it might effect the other board.  Or could one of the boards get shorted out if it accidentally touched the other board while it was turned on?  What do you guys think, is it OK??  Do any of you just store a board inside an arcade cab even if it's not hooked up?

As for heat, I doubt it's an issue... but I'll let someone add their opinion.
As for shorting out, that would be true of the board touching anything conductive. Just make sure all boards are secure and can't move around.

I can't imagine heat being an issue for nonpowered boards.  If it were THAT hot inside the cab the powered boards and monitor would fail.

Like Ray said, the real fear would be the boards touching, shorting randomly, and frying both.

I see...so it would probably be better if i just stored the extra board in a box somewhere as opposed to the extra slot in the vs cabinet, huh?  Just to be on the safe side?  Thanks for the advice guys.

No, what I was saying was just make sure your boards are secure so they can't move around.

As long as they're not in a position to short against something, they should be just fine.

Try and slip a thin piece of lexan between the 2 boards. As long as you have air going over everything, heat wouldnt really be an issue and neither would shorting.
