Billabs high resolution monitor
« on: March 27, 2006, 03:17:21 pm »
After having used a Wells gardner d9200 on my old mame cab, which i ended up selling to motorfish so he could put it into his vertical cab. This monitor is far better than the d9200. It is so clear its incredible. If anyone is planning on building a new cab with a 27 inch monitor, the billabs is the one to get. Not only can you plug in a mame system, but it comes with an adapter so jamma boards can be hooked up too. So for those games that just are not emulated correctly you can get the jamma board and use it on this as well.

Though i must warn its a little hard on the wallet, 700 bucks after shipping:(. only cost me 100 bucks to get my wells shipped and it was on a pallet. Seriously, they need to use someone other than Watkins.

So far i have a xbox , xbox 360 and a playstaion in this new cab. This monitor will run a 720p signal, though i have my 360 set up at 1024 x768 as this isnt a wide screen display.  Have to make the mounts for the 2 guitars on guitar hero next, then the metal ddr pads :)

i have found 1 issue, the playsation adapter does not seam to work on this monitor, though it works fine on the wells gardner d9200. The xbox and 360 look great, even tried motorfishs mame system with the avga on it and it looks terrific. Frustrated that the ps2 isnt showing though, i so want to get guitar hero working, and thier are more ddr games on the ps2.

I am enjoying the same monitor in my new arcade machine:

The only problems that I have with it is that there are no vertical bowing controls (and I have a bit of bowing at the bottom) and one of the corners is a little blurry when running at 1024x768 in XP. No noticeable problems with the Xbox or PS2 though  ;D

What I did on my cab was install an ATI TV Wonder card, that way it had tv and I could plug my PS2 and Dreamcast into the S-Video input on the TV card.  Worked like a charm and didn't have to disconnect the computer.

mairsil, how did you get your ps2 hooked up? I tried using ultimarcs ps2 adapter, and  while it works on the wells d9200, the billabs doesnt seam to sync to the signal.

Other than the ps2 issue the monitor looks terrific. Even at 1024x768, it still looks better than a wells at 800x600.

Another question, what are you doing with an xdk launcher? You live in the seattle area? Or is that green xbox a real debug kit?

I am using a Viewsonic Nextvision N6 to connect the PS2 (S-video) and the Xbox (component) to the VGA input of the monitor. And yes, that is a real debug kit.  ;D

cool, i may have to drop 200 bucks on that to fix my issue. Does it upscale the image or just de-interlace? What res do you run it at if you upscale?

Well, it depends. You actually choose the output resolution and refresh rate that you want to run on the monitor. The pictures above show the Xbox running at 1024x768 @60 KHz. The actual picture on the monitor is clearer than that shown above.

Take a look at the N5 as well. It has a few less resolution modes and is a little bit slower switching inputs and responding to the remote, but it is also a lot cheaper. I got both my N6 and N5 from ZipZoomFly since they had the cheapest prices at the time.
