Wells Gardner 19K7602 general questions
« on: March 26, 2006, 11:36:16 am »
I have the above listed monitor, a Wells Gardner 19K7602.  It came with a cabinet that I bought for $10 bucks.   :)

The monitor powered up fine when I bought it but I believe the cab had a dead boardset.
I have pulled all of the original wiring and boards out and it has an older computer and Mame now.

A couple of questions:

1.  Where can I get a power cord for this monitor?
2.  Do I need anything else except an arcade vga and vga breakout cable
(do I need the Arcade Monitor Video Amplifier, an isolation transformer, or anything else?)
3.  Is this a decent monitor?  Should I waste my time and money on this thing?

Any information on this monitor would be helpful!

It looks like the video cable is the one off to the right?

It has adjustments for the sync and color and stuff (2nd pic)

What the heck is the thing in the third picture?

The tube has a Phillips sticker on it, so it may have been replaced at some point.

The main reason I want it working is because the monitor I bought (http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/491337vp2lg.htm)
is a little too big for the cabinet.
The neck and the chassis stick out of the back a little.

Thanks, appreciate any help on this,

-Dweebs

Here's a link to manuals for Wells Gardner monitors, you have a K7000 series...that would be a good starting point:

Good Luck.

they are a pretty good monitor, the rgb signal cable is the one to the right, lots of adjustment pots on the chassis-colours on the neck card, the thing in the third picture is the high voltage transformer(lopti/flyback transformer),tube is prob original, does need an isolation transformer but your cab should have that, why buy a power lead just connector block the power down to 120v on the transformer but i don't know if you need a signal amp(depends on the signal in voltage from your grahics card)

I threw away the majority of original (I thought non-working) parts that were in this cab.

Basically I just used the shell and Mame'ed the cab.

Where could I buy a power cord/isolation transformer for this?

I really dont want to dump alot of money into this since I am not 100% sure this is a working monitor.

Ok, so lets say I scrap the idea of keeping this monitor.

How difficult, and more importantly, how dangerous would it be to transfer the new monitor tube and chassis to the old frame so that it fits in the cabinet properly?

I am a complete novice in as so far as monitors and high voltage goes and
would rather not discharge the monitor if that's possible.

Should I give this a shot? or just leave the back door off of the game?

Any thoughts?

Just about any monitor is fixable.  Looking at that one, I'm sure if it's not 100% can be troubleshooted fairly easily.

Isolation transformer can be had for about ten bucks.  If you hit up an arcade operator, you might even be able to get one for free.  Most monitors made these days don't require one.  When they junk a cab, they toss them with it.

To be honest, I dont really care about fixing the monitor.  I already bit the bullet and bought a brand new monitor with a VGA input (to avoid the whole arcade vga thing).  I just want the damn thing to fit within the confines of this cabinet without making modifications to the back door.

The new monitor would be perfect, except the monitor frame sticks out of the back door just a little bit.

I guess I have a couple of options.  I could either:

1.  leave the back door off of the cabinet (thats how it is right now)
2.  try and take this new monitor and install it on the old monitor frame
3.  grind off the little bit of the new monitor frame that sticks out of the back

What would you guys do?  I want to do the best thing, but honestly, monitors scare the crap out of me.  I am a little bit afraid of taking the old monitor and the new monitor apart and installing them on the old frame.

Just looking for advice, and opinions.

Thanks again,
-Dweebs
