Dreamcast: Under Defeat kick ass shmup
« on: March 25, 2006, 07:35:05 pm »
The hype of the game Under Defeat (yep another NAOMI port) is pretty accurate. I ust got done playing it for the first time and have to give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up.  It has great graphics, good fluid game play and is somewhat Zero Gunner 2 meets Ketsui in game play.

I'm still waiting for my copy.  Then I need to find some time to play all the great shooters that have been released recently.

Hate to say it, but TO is right, you own an Astro City AND Blast City cab (~$800-$1000) as well as a CPS2 SF3 3S board (~$500) and can't spend a measly $60 for this game? ??? This is a NEW DC game, and needs support from loyal DC fans, especially shmup fans like yourself.  The typical arguments of DC is Dead, and the developers never see the money if I'm buying off someone from ebay, do not apply here.  There is still a good chance G.Rev will port Senko No Ronde to DC, we need to send them a msg that there still DC fans willing to buy these games!!

I just got done playing Under Defeat, it is  :censored: incredible!!! I will totally buy this game. I promise, heh. I'll take a picture of it. 8)

Man, I think I like this game as much, if not more than Ikaruga. The explosions are just awe-inspiring.

Will it play on an unmodded US Dreamcast? If not what do I need?

I love my Dreamcast. I thought it was dead.

You need to use a boot disk to get it to play imports.  Download the utopia boot disk from your favorite torrent site.

Odd... didn't need a boot disk... but then again I am playing from a burn while the original stays minty.

The burns won't need a boot disk.  I believe they are regionless.  However, playing off the original GD requires one.  I will probably use a burn too, but I was using a boot disk to play Radirgy, since it took a while to be ripped and released.  It's more convinent than swapping and preserves the original.

Hey Dave, you playing this game on your Exceleena?  8)

I put my monitor in my Blast City back to horizontal about 3 weeks ago. I just tated it tonight. I think I'm going to keep it this way for a long time.  ;D

I'm still waiting on my marquee header. I ordered one from Cosmicco (China) like almost 2 months ago. The order somehow never ends up in their shipment. They said it should be in this 3rd try shipment. It's all I need to really complete this cab.

Point me to where I can learn more about this not-deadness? (i.e. what else is out there I'm missing?)

Several naomi shooter ports have been released since the dreamcast's demise.

Border Down
The Castle of Shikigami II
Psyvariar
Chaos Field
Trizeal
Radirgy
Under Defeat

My favorites are shikigami, radirgy and under defeat.  Did I miss anything?

Psyvariar

You mean Psyvariar 2.

Did I miss anything?

And how could you forget the first game that started this talk about being "the last game for Dreamcast", Ikaruga.  ;D  Has it been that long?  LOL

I smell Senko No Ronde a brewing for the Dreamcast as the last game released.

http://www.dreamcast-scene.com/index.php/Main/SenkoNoRondePetition

I don't know much abotu this game, other than people said it's great. I know it's coming to the 360, but this would set a lot of people right if this were the last Dreamcast game, ever.

Well I guess I assumed everyone knows about Ikaruga.  But perhaps that's not the case around here.  I agree it would be nice if Senko No Ronde got a dc release.  I don't forsee myself ever owning a 360 so the dc port is likely the only chance I'll have to play it.  Now convincing someone to play againist me in Senko No Ronde is another story.  It's mainly a 2P versus game, right?  It will be a tough sell for me to get someone to play it in versus mode.

I just got Under Defeat and Radilgy...  they are some sweet shmups, no doubt.

Now all I need is a slick candy cab to stick my DC in...

Plays well in Chankast w/ P4 3Ghz and 1GB of RAM. No dropped frames or graphic glitches to speak of using normal priority even at high resolutions.
