Building shed / possible pin/vid storage
« on: March 25, 2006, 02:31:14 pm »

I've been storing all of my queued up projects in the basement.  We're going to finish our basement soon so I need to find a new place to put them... part of our plan is to also build a 10x12 shed in the yard.  I was just out looking and we've got the choices down to a Gambrel style finished with either pine or vinyl siding.  The siding costs more but it matches our house better and our lot is small.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether a pine sided vs vinyl sided shed would affect pins stored inside?  Consider the MA weather as part of the equation...

this probably don't apply to you in the States but a gent had a star wars(data east)pin in his shed in the U.k and the damp caused serious damage to the mpu,so much so that the battery leaked all over the i/c's rotting the legs-it turned an extremely fine pinball into a pile of junk-so please beware

I believe you will have crappy conditions within a shed no matter what its made of.  If its not climate controlled, it will eventually be the same conditions as what is outside the shed, minus the rain, snow, direct sun, etc.  I wouldn't put anything out there you really care about for any extended period of time.  Short term storage would probably be ok.

You should also look into permits about building a separate structure on your property.

I doubt you will be able to keep electronic components in the shed.... If its empty cabs, just the wood... i wouldnt see it being so bad.

I'd think if you had a concete slab as the foundation/flooring of the shed, then anything inside should be fine for quite some time, assuming they can withstand the cold or heat in your area.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether a pine sided vs vinyl sided shed would affect pins stored inside?  Consider the MA weather as part of the equation...

Have you tried the library?

What happens there is supposed to stay there.  Yes?

There is no way the library will let you store them there
