No more than 3 months after getting a cobbled together PC 'cab' ready (thanks to a LOT of helpfull information from this forum's archives and cool free software by numerous enthusiasts) the ancient hard disk I'd installed in it finally lost it's grip and I lost everything. I'm 3/4 of the way through building a replica Galaga-ish cab and have bought all the controls, so I'm really eager to get everything up and running on my new hard drive as soon as possible.
This time around however, I can't seem to get John Crouse' C64 Wrapper working with winvice, despite the fact that it all worked seamlessly for me before. If anyone could shed any light on how I can get it working again I'd really appreciate it, because it's driving me crackers!
Here's what I've tried \ What's happening:
1: Install windows XP pro with SP2 to a freshly formated disk (FAT32)
2: Install winrar and .NET framework 1.1
3: Create a new folder on drive c - 'C:\WinVICE-1.19'
4: Place the WinVICE executable & all the files related to it in the new directory I made in step 3
5: double click on 'x64.exe' to check that the emulator functions OK, which it did. Close emulator.
6: Extract the 'c64 wrapper' to 'C:\WinVICE-1.19'.
7: Edited the 'c64wrapper.cfg' with notepad to read as follows:
*** Do not remove these lines preceded with ***
*** Full Path to Executable Folder ***
C:\WinVICE-1.19
*** Full Path to the Executable ***
C:\WinVICE-1.19\x64.exe
8: Save changes to the .cfg file and close it.
9: Open 'c64wrapper.exe' to be greeted by a techno-babble error message that reads :
"Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0xdd4 (3540), Thread id=0xdcc (3532).
Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application"
10: With trepidation, choose to click CANCEL
11: New bewildering message appears which reads
"Registered JIT debugger is not available.
An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2 (2).
Please check computer settings.
cordbg.exe !a 0xb74"
12: Wipe the hard disk and try the whole process again under Windows 98SE, only to be out-witted by the machine once again, which gives me the same error messages as it did under XP.
13: re-download WinVice, the wrapper and .NET framework 1.1. and try again with no joy.
14: Contacted J. Crouse who kindly took the time to reply, to ask if he had any ideas what I'm doing wrong this time around, but he couldn't put his finger on what the problem might be (Thanks for trying though John).
So, if anyone has any insight into what I need to do to get the wrapper working, I'd really appreciate the advice as I'm pretty lost at the moment!
Thanks for reading,
Mr. Badger
